Urban Transport Projects in Meerut to Be Launched by PM Modi on Feb 22

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Meerut on February 22, where he will inaugurate several major urban transport initiatives. These projects include the launch of the Metro service and the Namo Bharat train. The overarching goal of these developments is to enhance regional mobility and stimulate economic growth in western Uttar Pradesh. During the visit, Prime Minister Modi plans to address a public gathering.

Impact on Commerce and Employment

The introduction of these transport projects is anticipated to have a substantial positive impact on local commerce, real estate growth, and job creation, while simultaneously improving travel conditions for thousands of commuters in the area. The Metro service is expected to significantly enhance intra-city connectivity, alleviate traffic congestion, and offer residents a faster, more reliable transportation option. Similarly, the Namo Bharat train service aims to improve high-speed connectivity, effectively linking Meerut to the National Capital Region, and benefiting daily commuters, students, and business travelers alike.

Strategic Importance for Infrastructure Development

This visit is viewed as a critical step in advancing the region’s infrastructure, positioning Meerut as a developing urban and economic center within Western Uttar Pradesh. The focus on urban transport projects underscores the government’s commitment to enhancement of connectivity and mobility in the region.

Upcoming Visit to Assam

In a related series of engagements, Prime Minister Modi will also be in Assam on February 14. There, he will inaugurate and kick off development projects totaling over Rs 5,450 crore. These initiatives are designed to bolster connectivity, digital infrastructure, education, and urban mobility in the North-Eastern Region.

Details of the Assam Visit

The Prime Minister’s schedule for Assam includes his arrival at approximately 10:30 AM at the Emergency Landing Facility on Moran Bypass in Dibrugarh. He will observe an aerial display featuring fighters, transport aircraft, and helicopters. Subsequently, around 1 PM, he is set to inspect the newly constructed Kumar Bhaskar Varma Setu, which spans the River Brahmaputra. At approximately 1:30 PM, he will inaugurate and launch the aforementioned development projects at Lachit Ghat in Guwahati.

Promotion of Higher Education

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Guwahati. This institute is expected to significantly enhance management and higher educational opportunities in the North-Eastern Region. The establishment of this institution aligns with the government’s goal of strengthening educational infrastructure in the area.

Launch of Electric Bus Services

In conjunction with these initiatives, the Prime Minister will also flag off 225 electric buses under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme. These will be deployed in Guwahati (100 buses), Nagpur (50 buses), Bhavnagar (50 buses), and Chandigarh (25 buses). With this initiative, it is estimated that over 50 lakh citizens will benefit from improved access to clean, affordable, and reliable public transport services, thereby enhancing urban mobility and improving the overall quality of life in these cities.
