In a shocking case of alleged dowry violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha district, a 23-year-old woman, identified as Gulfiza, died after allegedly being forced by her in-laws to consume acid. The incident took place on August 11 in Kalakheda village, under Didauli police station limits. Gulfiza was married to Parvez Ahmad, a small-time farmer, about a year ago.
According to the victim’s family, Gulfiza had been subjected to continuous harassment by her husband and in-laws for a dowry of Rs 10 lakh and a car. Her father, Mohd Furkan, claimed that the demands started soon after the wedding. Despite attempts to mediate, the situation reportedly escalated over the past few months.
Forced to Drink Acid, Dies in Hospital

Despite undergoing treatment for 17 days, she succumbed to her injuries on Thursday. A post-mortem examination has been conducted in Moradabad.
Following a complaint by her father, police have registered an FIR against seven accused: husband Parvez, and relatives Asim, Gulista, Monish, Saif, Dr Bhura, and Babbu. The FIR, initially filed under BNS sections 85 (cruelty by in-laws) and 109 (attempt to murder), is now being updated to include charges of murder and dowry death, following the victim’s demise.
Police Assure Action
CO City Shakti Singh confirmed that all the accused are absconding but assured they will be arrested soon. “As the woman has now died, murder charges will be added. All the accused are on the run, but they will be arrested soon,” the CO added.
This incident comes amid rising concerns over dowry-related violence. Just days earlier, a 26-year-old woman in Greater Noida was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws, further highlighting the alarming trend of brutal dowry crimes in the state.
