Swastika Mukherjee to Lead Indo-American Film ‘Chheledhora’

Acclaimed actor Swastika Mukherjee, known for her performances in Hindi films such as Qala, Pataallok, and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy!, is set to take on the lead role in an Indo-American production titled Chheledhora. The film is scheduled to commence shooting on March 1, with filming taking place in the scenic and lesser-explored locations of Itanagar and Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh.

Creative Team Behind Chheledhora

The film will be directed by Shieladitya Moulik, who has recently gained acclaim for his theatrical release Surjo, which enjoyed an impressive 11 weeks on stage. Moulik is also recognized for directing Mrs Scooter and the Cannes-acclaimed Charak, which is set to be screened in theatres domestically this year.

Chheledhora revolves around the character of Brishti, portrayed by Mukherjee. Brishti is a divorced woman grappling with personal flaws and misunderstandings. In a moment of impulsiveness, she “steals” her daughter for an unsanctioned birthday celebration, leading to a genuine abduction incident. As Brishti navigates this predicament, she embarks on an unconventional path, triggering a significant transformation as she confronts her shortcomings as a parent.

This film intricately weaves family drama with elements of thriller and dark humor, presenting a distinct Bengali-road movie anchored by a morally complex female character. Upon completion, Chheledhora is expected to participate in international film festivals, aiming to transcend language barriers while honoring the art of cinema.
