Russian Deputy Chairman Denis Manturov Visits India for Intergovernmental Commission Discussions

Denis Manturov, the First Deputy Chairman of the Government of Russia, arrived in New Delhi on April 2 for a two-day official visit. The visit is designed to enhance cooperation between India and Russia across various key sectors. Manturov will co-chair the India-Russia Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological, and Cultural Cooperation, alongside India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar.

High-Level Bilateral Meetings Planned

As part of his itinerary, Manturov is scheduled to engage in several high-level meetings. The Ministry of External Affairs of India welcomed him warmly, highlighting the significance of his role during this visit. The Embassy of Russia in India also confirmed his arrival and outlined that discussions would cover a wide range of topics related to bilateral cooperation.

Focus on Expanding Trade and Economic Relations

In a statement released prior to his arrival, Manturov stated that the main objective of the Intergovernmental Commission is to foster a comprehensive enhancement of trade and economic relations between the two nations. He pointed out priority areas such as maintaining stability in mutual settlements and logistics chains, improving market access conditions, and encouraging new investments and joint projects.

Implementation of Economic Cooperation Programme

During the ongoing discussions, specific steps will be outlined to advance plans put forth in the Economic Cooperation Programme, which is set to run through 2030 and was adopted in December 2025. Manturov emphasized that the current global situation necessitates a focus on ensuring the stability of trade and cooperative ventures between India and Russia.

Meetings with Indian Officials Scheduled

In addition to his discussions with External Affairs Minister Jaishankar, Manturov is also expected to meet with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman during his stay in the capital. These discussions are anticipated to further solidify the collaboration between the two countries across various sectors.
