Nationalist Congress Party leader (Sharad Pawar faction) Rohit Pawar, has announced that he will deliver a comprehensive presentation on February 10 regarding the plane crash that resulted in the death of Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister, Ajit Pawar.
Speaking to the media following his vote in the Zilla Parishad elections in Baramati on Saturday, Rohit Pawar emphasized that numerous questions regarding the crash’s circumstances remain unanswered. The upcoming briefing in Mumbai is expected to address these persistent concerns.
Unanswered Questions Surrounding the Incident
Rohit Pawar mentioned that many people are struggling to understand the reasons behind the crash and the details surrounding it. He expressed the need to clarify various aspects during his presentation. “Everyone has questions and doubts about how and why the crash occurred,” he stated. He assured that these issues would be raised in detail on February 10.
Impact of the Crash on Recent Elections
The Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections took place in Maharashtra on the same day, covering 12 Zilla Parishads and 125 Panchayat Samitis. These elections had been postponed due to Ajit Pawar’s tragic death in the crash on January 28. The accident involved a chartered Learjet that crashed while attempting to land at a table-top airstrip in Baramati, resulting in the loss of five lives, including the Deputy Chief Minister, his personal security officer, and the aircraft’s flight crew.
Focus on Party Unity and Future Plans
Rohit Pawar noted that his late uncle had always promoted unity between rival factions within the Nationalist Congress Party. Rohit expressed a commitment to continuing efforts aimed at achieving a merger between the factions. Candidates from the NCP (SP), led by Sharad Pawar, along with other party members, contested the recent elections under a unified symbol.
“Ajit Dada sincerely wished for everyone to come together as one family,” Rohit Pawar remarked. He reiterated his commitment to fostering unity within the party, stating that the effort towards consolidation would persist.
Allegations of Political Conspiracy
In the wake of Ajit Pawar’s death, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised concerns about a potential political conspiracy, suggesting that his demise warrants a thorough investigation. She has called for a Supreme Court-monitored inquiry, pointing to reports indicating that he was contemplating a return to the NCP (SP) from the BJP. Banerjee described the late leader’s death as a significant loss for the party and indicated that he had been expected to realign with his original faction.
Clarification on Future Party Merger Intentions
Rohit Pawar also stated that he plans to elaborate on the reasons for and intentions behind the proposed merger of the factions on February 12. He emphasized the need to clarify whether the motivations behind the merger were political or personal.
Status of the Investigation into the Crash
Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, provided an update on the progress of the investigation into the crash. He stated that both the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are actively conducting the inquiry. The recovery and analysis of the aircraft’s black box are underway, and Mohol indicated that preliminary reports would follow after data analysis.
He further noted that investigation teams arrived at the crash site on the day of the incident and that the AAIB Director General was directly overseeing the initial phases of the inquiry. Authorities have reminded the public to avoid jumping to conclusions, clarifying that the final findings will be based on comprehensive technical analysis of the black box data.
