RCB Breaks 17-Year Chepauk Curse, Defeats CSK by 50 Runs

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has achieved a monumental victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, March 28, in the IPL 2025 match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar, RCB broke their 17-year losing streak at Chepauk with a commanding 50-run win over CSK. The visitors posted a formidable total of 196/7 and restricted the hosts to 146/8 in their chase.
At the beginning of RCB’s innings, its batting line-up struggled for consistency, while managing to set a competitive target. Quick 32 runs off 16 balls by Phil Salt gave them an early boost. However, it was the captain Rajat Patidar’s half-century with a score of 51 runs off 32 balls, that grounded the team. Tim David provided the finishing touch to RCB’s innings with an unbeaten 22 runs off just eight balls.
CSK’s fielding performance was sub-par as they dropped three crucial catches of Patidar, which proved costly for the team. Despite their renowned spin attack led by Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, Chennai could not capitalise on the sticky pitch conditions.

RCB Bowlers Dominate CSK’s Chase

RCB’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance to defend their total effectively. Josh Hazlewood led the attack with figures of 3/21 in four overs, while Yash Dayal (2/18) and Liam Livingstone (2/28) provided noteworthy support. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also made an impressive debut for RCB with economical bowling figures of 1/20.
The chase for CSK did not begin very strongly as their top order collapsed during the powerplay overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and debutant Rachin Ravindra attempted to stabilise the innings but fell short of building momentum. Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell contributed briefly, but the pressure mounted as wickets fell regularly.
The standout performers for CSK were Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, who displayed an unbeaten partnership of 66 runs for the fifth wicket. However, their efforts came too late, and CSK fell short by a significant margin.

17-Year Curse

This marks RCB’s first victory at Chepauk since 2008, ending a long-standing jinx against CSK at their home ground. With two wins in two matches this season, RCB has started IPL 2025 on a high note.
