Ranveer Singh to File Unconditional Apology in Kantara Mimicry Case, Next Hearing April 10

The CSR Journal Magazine

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh is preparing to submit an affidavit containing an unconditional apology related to the controversy stemming from his mimicry of a scene from the film Kantara during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2025. The affidavit is expected to be presented in court on April 10, 2026, coinciding with the next hearing on the matter.

Planned Visit to Chamundi Temple

As part of the apology process, Singh is anticipated to make a personal visit to the Chamundi Temple in Mysuru. This development follows objections from the complainant’s counsel, who contended that Singh had only issued a written apology on social media and had not verbally expressed regret during court proceedings.

Legal Proceedings and Arguments

During the most recent court session, the complainant’s attorney, Prashant Methal, expressed that the prior apology appeared to lack sincerity and was more formal in nature. In response, Singh’s legal representation asserted that the actor was genuinely affected by the situation and would soon provide a written apology in the form of an affidavit.

Background of the Controversy

The issue arose during the IFFI closing ceremony in Goa, where Singh commented on watching Kantara: Chapter 1 and praised its creator, Rishab Shetty, for his acting. While discussing the film, Singh imitated a Daiva possession scene, referring to it as involving a “female ghost.” Although intended as a tribute, this mimicry was viewed by some as disrespectful to the cultural significance of the scene. It was also noted that Shetty, who was present at the event, advised Singh against continuing the imitation.

Initial Response to Backlash

Following considerable backlash in December 2025, Singh took to Instagram to issue an apology, clarifying that his intent was to honor Rishab Shetty’s performance. He expressed sorrow if his actions had caused any offense and reiterated his respect for the various cultural traditions and beliefs in India.
