Punjab Bride Showered with Rs 8.5 Crore in Cash? Groom’s Family Refutes Claims

The CSR Journal Magazine

A wedding celebration in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district has gone viral after social media posts claimed that a bride was showered with Rs 8.5 crore in cash during the ceremony. However, the groom’s family has strongly denied the allegation, calling it a gross exaggeration.

The wedding, held on February 14, drew widespread online attention after videos surfaced showing currency notes being tossed into the air as guests danced and celebrated. The bride is seen standing on stage as cash rains down around her — a practice that is not uncommon at Punjabi weddings, where friends and relatives often throw money during celebrations as a symbolic gesture of joy and prosperity.

Groom’s Family Refutes Viral Claim

Responding to the viral reports, Sikander Singh, the groom’s brother, clarified that while money was indeed showered during the festivities, the amount was nowhere near the crores being reported online.

He stated that the total cash involved was approximately Rs 2 lakh. “My brother runs a truck business in Australia. We did celebrate with money being thrown, but it was not in crores as claimed,” he said, attributing the inflated figures to social media exaggeration.

According to the family, the visuals from the event may have created the impression of a much larger sum, leading to speculation and viral misinformation.

Event Organisers Offer Clarification

The event organiser and DJ associated with the wedding also addressed the circulating claims. They estimated that the total cash used during the celebrations was closer to Rs 4 lakh, including some foreign currency notes.

They expressed surprise over how the Rs 8.5 crore figure emerged and spread across multiple social media platforms without verification. No official financial record or independent confirmation has surfaced to substantiate the viral claim.

Public Reaction and Social Media Buzz

The video triggered mixed reactions online. While some users expressed astonishment at the alleged figure, others questioned its authenticity, pointing out that such claims often go viral without factual backing.

The incident highlights how short video clips, when taken out of context, can quickly lead to exaggerated narratives. In this case, neither the family nor event organisers have confirmed any amount close to the Rs 8.5 crore being widely discussed.

No Official Evidence of Crore-Level Cash

As of now, there is no verified evidence supporting the claim that crores of rupees were showered at the wedding. The only confirmed statements from those directly involved suggest the amount was in the range of a few lakhs.
