Parents of RG Kar Victim Question Central Bureau of Investigation Probe, Allege Cover-Up

The CSR Journal Magazine

The parents of the victim in the RG Kar rape and murder case have expressed serious concerns regarding the investigation conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). They have alleged that the agency is not conducting a thorough inquiry and is possibly attempting to obscure the truth behind the incident. Legal representatives for the parents have indicated a significant loss of trust, not only in the local law enforcement but now also towards the CBI. They suspect that high-ranking officials across various organizations may be involved in a systemic cover-up.

Allegations of Intentional Misdirection

The victim’s legal counsel, Rajdeep Haldar, asserted that the entire Kolkata Police force could be entangled in this case. He claimed that Sanjay Roy, who was arrested in connection with the incident, was unfairly scapegoated, stating that the police’s negligence appeared deliberate. Haldar commented on the handling of the investigation, pointing out that the CBI has not approached the matter as thoroughly as they should. He specifically noted that ASI Anup Dutta, who is under suspicion, had been released, raising further doubts regarding the inquiry’s integrity.

Criticism of CBI’s Status Reports

The family believes that a more extensive conspiracy is at play and is calling for police officers and medical professionals to be subject to custodial interrogation. They have highlighted inconsistencies that have emerged, particularly concerning the release of Sudipto Roy, despite his implications in the CBI’s findings. The parents’ representatives accused the CBI of obscuring facts, stating that the agency’s updates on the investigation lack necessary detail and clarity. The counsel alleges that the CBI is opposing requests to delve deeper into the roles of specific medical staff and police personnel in the case.

Call for Custodial Inquiry

The victims’ legal team has submitted a petition requesting that certain police officers and doctors be held in custodial inquiry. Citing the CBI’s report, they noted that these individuals did not pass polygraph tests, which would typically warrant further investigation. They expressed frustration that significant time has elapsed without the CBI conducting the necessary inquiries. According to them, the CBI’s resistance to their petition raises concerns that the agency may be part of a larger conspiracy to suppress the truth surrounding the investigation.

Background of the Case

The RG Kar Medical College incident took place on August 9, 2024, when the body of a 31-year-old female postgraduate doctor was discovered in a seminar room on the college premises. This shocking event ignited widespread protests and public outcry across the nation, with calls for justice for the victim gaining momentum. Subsequently, the investigation was handed over to the CBI following dissatisfaction expressed by the Calcutta High Court regarding the handling of the case by local police. The CBI has arrested multiple suspects in connection with the crime since taking on the investigation.
