Opposition Leaders Set to Convene Strategy Meeting in New Delhi

The CSR Journal Magazine

On March 10, in New Delhi, floor leaders from various opposition parties are slated to gather at 10 am on Tuesday. The meeting is intended to formulate their strategy for the budget session of Parliament, specifically for the second day’s proceedings. Key attendees are expected to include Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, and Mallikarjun Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, alongside other prominent opposition figures.

Parliamentary Tensions Amidst Ongoing Issues

Ahead of the strategy session, opposition parties, including the Congress, pushed for a discussion regarding the escalating conflict in West Asia. This request came even as External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar delivered an extensive statement outlining the government’s stance and response to the crisis. On the agenda was also an opposition resolution calling for the removal of Speaker Om Birla. However, predictions indicate that the opposition lacks the necessary numbers to successfully advance this resolution.

House Proceedings Disrupted

The Lok Sabha’s proceedings faced significant interruptions, resulting in multiple adjournments. Initially, the House was suspended until 12 noon, then rescheduled to reconvene at 3 pm, and ultimately called off for the day. These disruptions were largely due to opposition MPs engaging in slogan-shouting directed against the government’s handling of various issues.

Criticism from Government Officials

During the chaotic proceedings, BJP member Jagdambika Pal, who was presiding over the House, remarked that the External Affairs Minister had adequately addressed members’ concerns regarding the situation in West Asia. In addition, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju took the opportunity to criticize the opposition, labeling Congress as a “highly irresponsible party” for its conduct.

Protests by Opposition MPs

In a show of dissent, opposition MPs gathered at Makar Dwar, voicing their discontent with the government’s handling of the West Asia crisis. Their protests included various slogans targeting the government’s policies and actions. The situation in Parliament reflects ongoing tensions as both sides prepare for heightened discussions in the days ahead.
