Nearly 1 Kg MDMA Seized in Palakkad, Three Arrested in Joint Drug Operation

The CSR Journal Magazine

A collaborative operation conducted by the Palakkad North Police and the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) resulted in the seizure of approximately one kilogram of MDMA and the arrest of three individuals at Olavakkode Junction on August 17, 2026. This initiative was part of a larger effort aimed at combating drug trafficking during the Onam season.

Details of the Arrests

The individuals arrested have been identified as Muhammad Nisil from Kottayam, along with Karnataka residents Muhammad Azharudeen and his wife, B. Fathima. The arrests were made early on Monday morning, following an intensive operation focusing on curbing the movement of narcotic substances.

Officials reported that the operation began after monitoring a suspected drug trafficking network for three days. A crucial lead emerged when a suspect carrying ganja was identified at the railway station, enabling the DANSAF team to track and intercept a key individual believed to provide financial support for this trafficking group.

This suspected financier was travelling in a luxury vehicle in the Olavakkode Thanaavu area when police intercepted him on the night prior to the arrests. Information obtained from the vehicle’s occupant helped the authorities trace the movement of narcotics, leading to further developments in their investigation.

Execution of the Operation

Initially, the suspects did not comply with police instructions to stop, prompting law enforcement to position their vehicle in front of the suspects’ route. After this manoeuvre, the suspects were subdued and taken into custody.

A comprehensive search of the vehicle commenced around 2 am and continued for over three hours. Authorities indicated that the accused were overly confident about their concealment of the narcotics, believing that their efforts would evade detection. Additionally, the suspects purportedly did not cooperate during the search process.

Following persistent searching, authorities located the drugs concealed in a specially wrapped package near the vehicle’s diesel tank at approximately 5 am. The police have stated that the individuals apprehended are thought to be connected to a larger narcotics trafficking network.

Ongoing Investigation

The investigation related to this operation has intensified, with law enforcement agencies now seeking to identify other members of the alleged drug trafficking network and assess the extent of their involvement. Authorities are working to ensure that any further links in the network are addressed.

This seizure is part of an increased focus by police agencies to bolster enforcement measures ahead of the Onam festivities, during which time the movement and distribution of narcotics typically sees a rise. Surveillance and investigations are being ramped up as part of ongoing efforts to combat the drug trade in the region.

As the investigation unfolds, the authorities remain dedicated to disrupting illicit drug activities and ensuring community safety in the lead-up to the festive season.
