Ministry of Youth Affairs Plans Nationwide ‘ASMITA’ Sporting Events for International Women’s Day 2026

The CSR Journal Magazine

In a bid to honour International Women’s Day on March 8, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports is set to launch a nationwide sporting initiative known as ASMITA. This event will be coordinated through the Sports Authority of India (SAI) and implemented in partnership with My Bharat. Ansuman Prasad Das, the State Director for My Bharat in Andhra Pradesh, announced that activities are scheduled to occur in 250 locations across the country.

Focus on Young Female Athletes

The ASMITA events are specifically designed to encourage participation among young women aged 14 to 28. Various sporting activities are planned, with a significant emphasis on athletics – specifically races including the 100m, 200m, and 400m sprints. Das expressed strong expectations for a high turnout, indicating that the program aims to create a vibrant environment for female athletes to showcase their talents.

Empowering Women Through Sports

This initiative forms part of a broader national strategy to promote women’s empowerment via sports. It reflects a commitment to bolster the coordination between SAI, My Bharat, and various State Governments to ensure that sports and fitness can be accessible at the grassroots level. The ASMITA program aims to enable all women in India to participate equally and compete in sports events.

Proven Track Record of the ASMITA Initiative

Since its inception in 2021, the ASMITA initiative has recorded notable achievements, having successfully organized over 2,500 sporting leagues. This extensive outreach has positively impacted more than 290,000 female athletes across all 36 States and Union Territories of India. The ongoing efforts of ASMITA continue to foster opportunities for women, encouraging them to engage in sports and strive for excellence.
