In a disturbing case from Chhattisgarh’s Champa area, a woman has been arrested for allegedly killing her husband by smothering him with a pillow while he was in an intoxicated state. The incident occurred on Sunday, during the lunar eclipse.

Sanjay Thawait, brother of the deceased Somraj Badaik, lodged a complaint accusing his sister-in-law, Durga Badaik, of strangling her husband with a pillow. Police acted swiftly, arresting Durga soon after the complaint was received.

Wife Alleges Continuous Abuse by Husband

According to JP Gupta, in-charge of Champa police station, Durga confessed to killing her husband as she could no longer bear his regular physical and emotional abuse. The victim reportedly returned home drunk frequently and subjected her to beatings while doubting her character.

On the evening of September 7, Somraj allegedly assaulted Durga again, accusing her of infidelity. This violent confrontation pushed Durga to take revenge. She strangled Somraj after he fell asleep in an intoxicated state.

Discovery and Aftermath

The incident came to light when Durga called Sanjay at around 9 pm on September 7, informing him of another beating. Fearing for her safety, Sanjay arrived at the house with family members and found Somraj lifeless. Despite initial hope that he was unconscious, a nearby doctor confirmed his death.

Police recovered the pillow allegedly used in the murder, and Durga has been sent to judicial custody.

Similar Incident in Chhattisgarh

This case is not isolated. In February 2025, a 40-year-old woman in Jashpur district was arrested for killing her husband over repeated abuse and alcoholism. The husband frequently came home drunk and fought with her, leading to a fatal confrontation where the woman used a sharp weapon.
