Kerala Minister Veena George Files Complaint Over Cyber Harassment

The CSR Journal Magazine

Kerala’s Health Minister Veena George, who is also the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate for the upcoming assembly elections, has reported experiencing persistent cyber harassment. On April 3, 2025, she lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer, citing a stream of derogatory and abusive comments directed at her on social media platforms. According to George, such behaviour is unacceptable and detrimental to women in society.

Speaking to ANI, George stressed the seriousness of the situation, declaring, “No woman should be subjected to cyber harassment.” She underscored the degrading nature of the comments, urging for an investigation into the matter. George highlighted that the attacks have surpassed acceptable boundaries, labelling them an egregious form of harassment.

In her statement, she emphasised the need for society to address these issues effectively. The minister asserted that no female candidate should endure such violations, framing this cyber attack as an affront to women. “There is a limit to everything,” she stated categorically, reaffirming her commitment to raise awareness about the need to tackle these challenges.

George Confident About Upcoming Elections

Despite the distress caused by the cyber attacks, Veena George expressed confidence in her electoral prospects. She is optimistic about securing a higher majority than in the prior elections, attributing this confidence to significant developmental advancements in the Aranmula assembly segment. These projects include major upgrades to roads, bridges, and the recent inauguration of Central Park.

George remarked on the transformation of Aranmula, stating, “We will definitely win with more majority than in 2021 because development has happened in Aranmula.” She elaborated on various improvements within the area, including the construction of new infrastructure that aims to enhance the community’s overall quality of life. The minister described the positive changes in her constituency, including the upgrading of BM&BC roads and the establishment of new sports facilities.

Central Park, which recently opened, has also received considerable attention from residents, with George mentioning that it has markedly uplifted the area’s atmosphere. She highlighted how these projects contribute to a renewed sense of community pride and engagement in Aranmula.

Upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections

The Kerala Legislative Assembly elections are scheduled for April 9, 2026, as announced by the Election Commission of India on March 15. The current assembly’s term is set to end on May 23, leading to the necessity for new elections. George had previously submitted her nomination papers for the Aranmula constituency on March 21, 2025, solidifying her candidacy in the forthcoming electoral battle.

As the elections approach, political tensions and campaign activities intensify. Veena George’s statements reflect a broader social discourse about the nature of political engagement and the importance of protecting candidates from harassment. Her actions indicate a commitment not only to her campaign but also to addressing the pressing issue of cyber harassment in the political arena.

The upcoming elections will serve as a critical moment for both George and her opponents, as they vie for the support of the constituents in a rapidly evolving political landscape. With the foundation of her campaign rooted in development and addressing social issues, George aims to make a significant impact in the electoral outcomes of Aranmula.
