Karnataka: Wife Sits on Husband’s Chest, Attempts to Strangle him With Lover’s Help

The CSR Journal Magazine

A shocking case of betrayal and attempted murder has surfaced from Akkamahadevi Nagar in Indi town, Vijayapura district, Karnataka. A woman, along with her lover and an accomplice, allegedly attempted to murder her husband in a brutal late-night attack on September 1, 2025. The victim, Beerappa Mayappa Pujari, managed to survive the harrowing incident, which came to light days later.

A Chilling Murder Plot Unfolds

Beerappa, 36, was living in a rented house with his wife Sunanda and their two children. Unbeknownst to him, Sunanda had reportedly been involved in an extramarital affair with a man named Siddappa Katakare. The affair is believed to have deepened over time, and the two allegedly plotted to eliminate Beerappa to continue their relationship without interference.

According to police reports, Sunanda conspired with Siddappa and another accomplice to carry out the attack while Beerappa was asleep.

In his account of the assault, Beerappa told police, “One man was sitting on my chest, strangling me, while another sat on my legs and squeezed my private parts, trying to kill me. At that moment, my wife said, ‘Don’t leave him, Sidu, press his neck harder.’ On hearing this, the man tightened his grip on my throat even more.”

Assault in the Dead of Night

On the night of September 1, as Beerappa slept, Sunanda allegedly sat on his chest and attempted to strangle him. She also targeted his private parts in an effort to incapacitate him. Witnesses and police sources claim that Sunanda shouted for Siddappa to “finish him off.”

Beerappa, startled by the assault, kicked a nearby cooler, creating a loud crash that caught the attention of the landlord. At the same time, the couple’s 8-year-old son awoke and opened the door. The noise and confusion forced Siddappa and the accomplice to flee the scene immediately.

In his formal statement, Beerappa recounted the attack in detail, saying, “They strangled my neck, pressed and covered my nose and mouth, and I was unable to breathe. Then I hit against the fridge, making a loud noise. My wife was right beside me, but she stayed silent without saying a word. Seeing that, I became terrified. I struggled hard. My wife suddenly changed her stance, pretending to ask why I was making noise. Hearing the commotion, the neighbours rushed in and came to help me.”

Video Confession Adds Twist

In a surprising turn, Siddappa later uploaded a video on social media, claiming that Sunanda had dragged him into the murder plot. The video, believed to have been recorded during or shortly after the incident, captures Sunanda’s voice during the attack. It has become a crucial piece of evidence in the investigation.

Acting on Beerappa’s complaint and the video footage, the Indi police arrested Sunanda. A manhunt has been launched for Siddappa, who remains at large. A special team has been formed to track him down.

“Sunanda and I have been in a relationship for the past two and a half years. Our lands were next to each other. After about one and a half years, they sold their land and shifted to Indi town. The video I made should be circulated everywhere. If I give a complete statement to the police saying I am not at fault, they will not accept it because the law favours women. If I die, she alone will be directly responsible,” he said.

He further added, “I have no role in this act; everything was done by her. Now she is lying, saying that I am the one who did it. She even took a vow on my behalf and went with me to Srisailam temple. There she prayed that within three months we should live together like husband and wife. But now she is lying and has betrayed me.”

Police Assures Swift Action

Beerappa, who sustained injuries during the assault, was admitted to a private hospital in Indi, where his condition is currently stable. The incident has left the family and local residents in deep shock. The couple’s young children are reportedly traumatized.

The police have assured the public that they are treating the case with the utmost seriousness. The investigation is ongoing, with officials emphasizing the heinous nature of the crime and vowing to deliver justice swiftly.
