Every year on Diwali, Jaipur draws attention and this year too it is stealing the spotlight, not just with the wonderful décor in the heritage walled city, but by preparing a sweet that is made of pure gold — literally. Jaipur has prepared Swarn Prasadam, which costs ₹1.11 lakh per kilogram, making it the costliest sweet prepared to date in India.

What makes this sweet unique?

While the cost has drawn attention, what makes the sweet unique is the 24-carat edible gold. Living up to its name ‘Swarn Prasadam’, it literally means ‘a devotional offering made of gold.’ This sweet isn’t just costly — it also has unique Ayurvedic and health benefits. On Dhanteras, this sweet delicacy was launched, and visuals reveal each portion of the sweet shimmering with gold, decorated with silver foil, saffron, almonds, pine nuts, and premium dry fruits.

This isn’t the first time that Jaipur has prepared an expensive dessert like this. The previous year, Swarn Bhasam Pak was introduced — it was made of fine ashes of gold and silver, and it cost ₹70,000 per kilogram, making it India’s healthiest and costliest sweet. But this year, Jaipur has broken its own record.

What special things are happening in Jaipur this year?

Not only are Jaipur’s sweetmakers pushing their boundaries, but temples managed by the Rajasthan Devasthan Department are also putting their best foot forward by lavishly decorating temples and hosting cultural events under ‘Panch Parv Diwali’.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma has already directed officials to make sure that the festival is celebrated in a grand way, with enhanced lighting and beautification of public spaces. Even government schools and community spaces are being decorated, and around two lakh new streetlights are being installed in urban areas.

So, from sweets made of gold to a glowing city, Jaipur is all set for Diwali.
