Police have arrested accused Ravi Bhardwaj from Bihar in connection with a shooting incident in Kolkata’s Jadavpur. A team from Jadavpur police station went to Patna on Thursday, October 30 to arrest the accused.
An open firing incident occurred in the Bijoygarh area of Jadavpur, Kolkata, on Monday evening October 28. The incident was a targeted attack where an accused man allegedly fired at the home of his estranged girlfriend. A young woman living in Bijoygarh, who was in a past relationship with the accused. The police identified the accused as Ravikumar Bharadwaj, a resident of Bihar.
“The accused has been identified as Ravikumar Bharadwaj. He is from Bihar but settled in Bengaluru, where he ran an event management company. He met the woman there,” said an officer of Jadavpur police station.
According to police, Bharadwaj ran an event management company in Bengaluru and was in a relationship with the woman from Kolkata who worked in the company. The accused had entered his ex-girlfriend’s house and opened fire on her last Monday. Although the bullets did not hit anyone, he was arrested two days later. After initial investigation, the police came to know that the accused’s name is Ravi Bharadwaj. Although he hails from Bihar, he used to live in Bengaluru for work.
The victim is a resident of Bijoygarh area of Kolkata’s Jadavpur. She went to Bengaluru for work and met the accused there. Within a few days, a close relationship developed between the two. Allegedly, Ravi hid his marital status from the girl. But soon the girl came to know that Ravi was married and after that, she broke up with him.
“The couple entered into a relationship in 2022. In 2023, the woman discovered that Bharadwaj was married and subsequently ended the relationship. Following this, the man assaulted her with a chopper,” stated the police officer.
Accused kept stalking girlfriend even after she broke up
Allegedly, the accused did not give up even after break up. He used to harass the girl in various ways. While he was in Bengaluru, he attacked the girl once. He also had to serve jail time for that. Ravi had been taken into custody previously in Bengaluru for allegedly using a chopper on her when she rejected him after becoming aware of his marital status, police said.
Even after the girl returned to Kolkata, Ravi allegedly kept chasing her. Last Monday, he went to the woman’s house in Bijoygarh with a single-shot pistol. Before anyone could understand anything, he opened fire. The bullet missed the target and the girl was injured but her life was saved. The victim reported the matter to Jadavpur police station, where a case of attempted murder has been started against Ravikumar.
After this incident, there was a huge commotion in the area. The accused fled the scene in fear and was not traceable for two days. The police collected several pieces of information by talking to the victim. CCTV footage of the area was collected. The accused youth was finally found in Patna and arrested on Thursday.
