Indian Shops, Restaurants in UK’s Wembley Vandalised in Targeted Attacks

The CSR Journal Magazine

A series of disturbing incidents have unfolded in Wembley, where gangs allegedly composed of young men of Somalian descent have been targeting establishments owned by individuals of Indian origin.

These attacks, reported over the past week, have drawn attention following an earlier incident in Harlow, where a group targeted attendees at a Holi celebration. Local shopkeepers are expressing fears that there may be a connection between the two events.

Parliamentary Discussion on Harrow Attack

Bob Blackman, Member of Parliament, brought the recent violence in Harrow to the floor of Parliament. He highlighted that the Holi festivities were interrupted by individuals from the Central Mosque, who sought to assault peaceful participants. According to Blackman, there were approximately 20 assailants involved, leading to one arrest, while he raised concerns regarding the Metropolitan Police’s response to such extreme violence.

Manek Chowk, an Indian restaurant situated on Ealing Road, Wembley, has experienced vandalism on two separate occasions within the same week, specifically on March 5 and March 7. Videos emerged from these incidents, depicting the attackers, many dressed in traditional thobes and wearing face coverings, as they wreaked havoc inside the restaurant. Footage captured by bystanders showed overturned furniture and spilled food, illustrating the extent of the destruction.

Eyewitness Accounts

An eyewitness, who owns a PIO store nearby, recounted a chilling experience that began with an assault on three men from the Daman and Diu region in the restroom of a different establishment last Wednesday, where they were left injured.

He stated that a group of approximately 15 to 20 young men, believed to be part of the same Somalian gang, then targeted Manek Chowk. Their attack was sudden and devoid of any confrontation; they immediately began to demolish furniture and equipment, even assaulting an Indian man who attempted to intervene. The violence typically occurred after 8 PM and was seemingly unprovoked.

Destruction at Local Businesses

Another video, recorded on March 6, depicted a group of masked individuals in thobes vandalizing Panesar Food and Wine on Harrow Road. They were seen tossing fruit and vegetable crates onto the ground and trampling upon them. Locals suggested that the attackers appeared organized, as they would film the vandalism before leaving the scene. Some residents opined that the attacks seemed as if they were orchestrated, igniting further concern among the community.

Police Response and Community Concerns

Despite the scale of the vandalism, the police reportedly arrived only after the assailants had fled, leading to considerable property damage. On Monday night, in a separate incident on Ealing Road, a man of Gujarati descent was stabbed and quickly transported to an accident and emergency department.

In response to the unfolding violence, a spokesperson for Brent Council condemned any form of violent intimidation towards local businesses, asserting that such behavior is completely unacceptable. The council is encouraging anyone with relevant information or footage to promptly contact law enforcement officials.
