Indian National Congress Appoints Ajay Maken, Mukul Wasnik as Observers in Kerala

The CSR Journal Magazine

The Congress party has initiated the government formation process in Kerala, following a significant victory in the recent assembly elections. In a strategic move, the party has designated Ajay Maken and Mukul Wasnik as observers. Their primary role will be to gather insights from newly-elected MLAs regarding the selection of the state’s Chief Minister.

In the elections, Congress secured 63 out of 140 seats in the Kerala assembly, marking a decisive defeat for the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF), which had maintained power for the preceding decade. The party’s coalition partners also performed well, with the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) winning 22 seats.

Maken and Wasnik are expected to engage with the Congress MLAs to facilitate a comprehensive understanding of their views, which will influence the decision-making process regarding the Chief Minister’s appointment. This initiative represents an early step in cementing the leadership structure within the newly elected assembly.
