The CSR Journal Magazine

A devastating accident in Nashik district claimed the lives of nine members of a family, including six children, after their vehicle plunged into a well in Dindori on Friday night (April 3). The incident occurred around 10 pm in the Shivaji Nagar area, approximately 25 km from Nashik city.

According to police, the victims were residents of Indore village in Dindori and were returning home in a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) after attending a coaching class get-together in town. The journey turned fatal when the driver reportedly failed to notice the well in the darkness, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall directly into the deep structure.

Rescue Efforts Continue for Hours

Officials from Dindori Police Station, along with local residents, rushed to the spot and launched an immediate rescue operation. Police inspector Bhagwan Mathure stated that two hydra cranes were deployed and local swimmers were called in to assist in retrieving the submerged vehicle.

The rescue operation lasted over two hours, with the vehicle and bodies finally pulled out of the well around 12:15 am on Saturday. Despite swift efforts by authorities and volunteers, all nine occupants were declared dead at the scene and later shifted to a government hospital in Dindori.

Victims Identified, Community in Shock

The deceased have been identified as Sunil Dattu Dargude (32), Reshma Sunil Dargude (27), Asha Anil Dargude (32), and six children, Khushi (14), Madhuri (13), Shreyas (11), Rakhi (11), Shravani (11), and Samruddhi (7). The loss of so many young lives has left the local community in deep mourning.

Residents and local leaders have expressed grief and extended support to the bereaved family. The tragedy has also sparked conversations around road safety in rural areas, particularly the need for proper lighting, signage, and protective barriers around open wells.

Call for Improved Safety Measures

Authorities have begun investigating the exact circumstances that led to the accident. Preliminary reports suggest poor visibility and lack of safety infrastructure may have contributed to the incident.

The tragedy highlights the urgent need for preventive measures, including better road illumination, fencing of hazardous areas, and increased awareness among drivers. Local officials are expected to review safety protocols to prevent such incidents in the future.

As the community comes to terms with the loss, the incident stands as a grim reminder of how quickly lives can be lost due to infrastructural gaps and unforeseen circumstances.
