Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced that approximately 24,000 students have migrated from private institutions to 150 government schools adopting the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum this year. This movement signifies increasing parental confidence in the government’s education system. The Chief Minister made these comments during the Bal Mela event in Nagrota Bagwan.

In his address, CM Sukhu detailed the government’s extensive reform initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality of education. He asserted that the transition of these students reflects a growing trust among parents in the state’s ability to provide quality education. He also mentioned plans for significant upgrades in government schools over the next two to four years, aimed at making the institutions more appealing to families.

The Chief Minister’s emphasis on modern facilities and improved teaching standards aims to encourage further enrolment in government education institutions. This transition is seen as a pivotal step in revitalising the state’s educational landscape, which has faced challenges in recent years.

Expansion of Healthcare Services in Himachal Pradesh

During the same event, Chief Minister Sukhu announced plans for an enhancement of healthcare services across the state. He stated that the government is actively working to increase the number of postgraduate (PG) seats in medical colleges by 330, which includes adding 100 PG seats at the Dr. Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College in Tanda. This move is expected to bolster the availability of specialist doctors in the region.

In addressing healthcare infrastructure, CM Sukhu noted that there has been a shortage of modern medical equipment in colleges and hospitals, which the government is now aiming to rectify. State-run medical facilities are set to receive advanced medical equipment to ensure that patients do not need to seek treatment outside the state.

Additionally, Himachal Pradesh has reportedly become the first Indian state to incorporate robotic surgery into its government healthcare services. With the installation of advanced medical technologies, including several Tesla MRI scanners in academic institutions, the state is striving to elevate its healthcare provision.

Commitment to Development and Infrastructure Projects

CM Sukhu reiterated the government’s commitment to comprehensive development in the Kangra district during his speech. He stated that various government institutions have been relocated to Dharamshala, and that the expansion of the Kangra Airport is being treated with urgency. Through these efforts, the government aims to bolster infrastructure and enhance local economies.

In his dedication to responsive governance, the Chief Minister indicated that a focus will be placed on investigating allegations of corruption and other issues related to previous governmental conduct. He announced that a White Paper Committee would be proposed during the next Cabinet meeting to disclose pertinent facts to the public.

The Chief Minister also announced various local infrastructure initiatives, including a Mini Secretariat at Baroh and upgrades to local police and healthcare facilities. He paid tribute to the late GS Bali, recognising his contributions to the region’s infrastructure and recalling his advocacy for road development in Himachal Pradesh.

Overall, the government aims to become self-reliant and prosperous by 2032, striving for effective implementation of schemes to benefit all citizens. CM Sukhu concluded by affirming that the government’s focus is not solely on announcing initiatives but ensuring that they are effectively realised at the community level.
