The Gurugram Police presented the accused, Kalyan Bainsla and Lovneesh, at the Gurugram district court on September 16 in relation to the Golf Course Road hit-and-run incident. They were brought before Civil Judge Nidhi Beniwal for hearings concerning the case. This court appearance coincided with the victim, Sia, undergoing various medical tests to evaluate her condition following the incident.

During this time, Sia provided details about her medical examinations, stating that she had completed tests including an ECG to check for internal injuries. Sia mentioned experiencing severe pain across her body, particularly in her knees and pelvic region, prompting additional X-rays. She awaits further consultation with her doctor based on the test results.

Victim’s Family Responds to Accused’s Claims

The family of the victim, particularly her brother, refuted claims made by the accused that sought to rationalise their flight from the incident scene. He labelled these remarks as absurd, especially given the existence of clear video evidence of the crash. He emphasised that the accused attempted to excuse their actions by alleging a sudden need to use the restroom, calling this justification unbelievable in light of public scrutiny.

The brother strongly supported the actions taken by law enforcement, asserting that the apprehension of the accused was appropriate and justified. He praised the legal charges laid against Bainsla, specifically under Section 307 for attempted murder, asserting that they accurately reflected the gravity of the situation. He recognised the role of media, including social media platforms, in rallying public awareness and support for the case.

In this context, he thanked the Haryana Police for their quick response, asserting that their actions were vital in addressing the incident effectively. His assertions highlighted the seriousness with which such matters should be treated and called for continued public awareness surrounding road safety and integrity.

Former IPS Officer’s Remarks and Implications

Kiran Bedi, a former IPS officer, voiced her perspective on the incident, describing the actions of the accused as cowardly and rooted in fragile male dominance. She articulated that the driver’s impatience with a woman keeping pace with him resulted in the aggressive behaviour observed during the incident. Bedi stressed the importance of digital evidence, noting that the presence of a camera on Sia’s motorcycle was instrumental in documenting the situation.

Bedi further asserted that the accused’s attempts to evade responsibility, including fleeing the scene and removing their vehicle’s number plate, underscored a broader issue of accountability. She praised the police for their stringent application of the law in response to the incident, suggesting that road safety measures need to be thoroughly enforced to deter reckless behaviour among drivers.

She concluded by remarking on the necessity for a cultural shift in attitudes toward law enforcement and road safety. Bedi called for a commitment to strict regulations regarding vehicular misconduct, suggesting that effective deterrents must be in place to ensure public safety and accountability in similar incidents in the future.
