A girl was allegedly kidnapped from her home in Prayagraj district, Uttar Pradesh, on June 14, during the night while she and her family were asleep on their terrace. According to reports from the police, the suspect, identified as Musharraf, entered the residence and abducted the minor. Following the abduction, he reportedly took her to an open field, where he is alleged to have raped her and inflicted cigarette burns on various parts of her body.

The girl was discovered unconscious by her family and local residents, who subsequently rushed her to a nearby hospital for medical attention. The police have stated that extensive medical examinations are currently underway to assess her condition and gather further evidence. Investigations are also ongoing to determine whether the accused had prior knowledge of the girl.

After the abduction, law enforcement initiated a widespread search for Musharraf, who managed to escape the scene. Police efforts were heightened following the incident as officials worked diligently to locate the suspect, prompting extensive community engagement and support.

Police Encounter and Arrest of the Accused

On the evening of June 21, during a routine vehicle check, police officers reportedly spotted Musharraf. Allegedly recognising the police presence, he attempted to flee the scene and opened fire on the officers. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, police shot him in both legs, as confirmed by Prayagraj Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Manish Shandilya.

According to the police official, Musharraf and the victim resided in the same village. He is suspected of having committed the assault before fleeing the area. In light of the police operation, they were able to apprehend him following the brief confrontation, leading to his current hospitalisation for treatment of his injuries.

Additionally, an illegal country-made pistol was reportedly recovered from Musharraf at the scene of the encounter. Police have confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed against him and two other unidentified individuals, who are also implicated in the case, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend them.

Community and Government Response

The local MLA has reached out to the survivor’s family, pledging support and assuring them that efforts will be made to ensure justice is delivered. The community’s response has been one of support for the victim, with local leaders expressing their commitment to addressing the heinous nature of the crime.

Local authorities have emphasised their determination to enhance security measures following this incident, as residents express concerns over safety. The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring thorough investigations are conducted and necessary actions are taken against all those involved in the case.

The ordeal faced by the girl has reportedly sparked discussions within the community regarding public safety and the need for increased vigilance to prevent similar incidents in the future. The survivor’s family is currently receiving support from local organisations as they navigate this distressing situation.
