Fake Doctor Tragedy: UP Hospital Manager Performs Surgery, Patient Dies

The CSR Journal Magazine

The recent incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Chandauli district, where a woman died after undergoing a surgery performed by a hospital manager without a qualified doctor, has led to the arrest of the individual involved. Indrajeet Prajapati, a 24-year-old B.Sc. Nursing student, allegedly operated on the patient in the absence of medical professionals at Indra Hospital located in Mahraiya village. Following the incident, the local health authorities have moved to close the facility pending an investigation.

Patient’s Condition and Death

The patient, identified as Suman, was admitted to Indra Hospital on August 18 for a surgical procedure related to her uterus. Reports indicate that on the day of the operation, no qualified medical personnel attended the hospital, despite Prajapati claiming to arrange for doctors on call. On August 19, Prajapati allegedly conducted the surgery himself, which resulted in Suman’s condition worsening, ultimately leading to her death later that evening.

Upon their loss, Suman’s family approached the local Dhanapur police station to file a complaint. This prompted the police to initiate an investigation led by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO). The medical evaluation subsequently revealed alleged negligence on the part of Prajapati, which resulted in formal charges being brought against him, including culpable homicide.

Medical Findings and Responsibility

Furthermore, the inquiry established that Prajapati alone managed the hospital operations, with no licensed medical staff or paramedics present. He admitted during questioning that he typically called in doctors as required, but on this occasion, opted to perform the surgery himself in their absence.

Legal and Administrative Actions

The investigation into this tragic incident uncovered that Prajapati did not hold any medical qualifications allowing him to legally perform surgeries. As a B.Sc. Nursing student, he lacked the requisite knowledge and certification to conduct medical procedures independently. His hospital, operating under the title of Indra Hospital, was allegedly known locally as a medical provider, despite operating without appropriate oversight.

In response to the findings, the health department has officially cancelled the hospital’s registration and recommended its immediate closure. Following the police investigation, Indrajeet Prajapati was arrested and is currently in custody while further inquiries are ongoing. This case has drawn attention to the need for stringent measures in regulating medical facilities to prevent similar instances of malpractice in the future.

Authorities are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident, focusing on both the operational standards of the hospital and the legal ramifications for Prajapati. The health department’s actions underscore a critical response to ensure patient safety and accountability within healthcare practices.
