Drunk Man Shoots BJP Leader’s Brother Dead in Broad Daylight in UP’s Busy Chandauli Market

The incident occurred when Santosh Maurya, 45, was seated at his grocery shop. His shop is located adjacent to his brother’s dispensary, in the busy Chakia market. According to eyewitness accounts and police reports, Devendra Jaiswal, began hurling verbal abuses at passersby and customers near the shop. The locals also stated that Jaiswal is known for his habitual drinking. When Santosh and others objected to his unruly behavior, Jaiswal was forced to leave the area.

However, the situation took a tragic turn when Jaiswal returned shortly after, But this time wielding a double-barrel shotgun. Witnesses stated that he resumed creating a commotion before Santosh stepped outside to confront him. Without warning, Jaiswal allegedly pointed the firearm at Santosh’s chest and fired at close range.

Victim Pronounced Dead at Hospital

Witnesses revealed that Santosh collapsed instantly following the gunshot. Locals rushed him to the district hospital, but he was declared dead by doctors. The shocking incident triggered immediate panic and outrage in the market area. A huge crowd gathered at both the crime scene and the hospital.

In addition the Local BJP leaders, including Dr. Pradeep Maurya, and several party workers rushed to the site. Chandauli Superintendent of Police (SP) Aditya Langeh and Additional SP (Operations) Digambar Kushwaha also reached the scene to oversee the situation.

Accused Beaten by Locals, Weapon Seized

After the shooting, Jaiswal was overpowered by angry bystanders who thrashed him before handing him over to the police. He sustained minor injuries and is currently under medical supervision in custody.

Meanwhile the police also recovered the weapon used in the crime. They are now verifying its registration details, including whether the gun was licensed under Jaiswal’s or his father’s name.

Investigation Underway, Security Tightened

Authorities have sent Santosh Maurya’s body for post-mortem examination. An FIR has been registered, and further legal proceedings are in progress. According to preliminary investigations, the shooting was a spontaneous act driven by intoxication rather than any long standing dispute.

To prevent unrest and maintain law and order, additional security personnel have been deployed in the Chakia market area. The tragic killing has left the local community in shock, sparking renewed concerns over gun access and public safety in the region.
