CSR News: SBI Foundation Launches Asha Scholarship Programme Offering Up to Rs 15 Lakh, Eligibility Criteria 2026-27

The SBI Foundation has initiated the application process for the SBI Asha Scholarship for the academic year 2026-27. This programme, established to commemorate the foundation’s Platinum Jubilee, aims to assist students at various educational stages. The scholarship is accessible to those studying both within India and abroad, covering an array of categories, from Class 9 to postgraduate studies. Selected candidates may receive financial support amounting to Rs 15 lakh per year.

To qualify for the SBI Asha Scholarship, candidates must meet specific criteria. This includes being an Indian citizen, studying in India or overseas, and having achieved a minimum of 75 per cent marks in their most recent qualifying examination. Additionally, the applicant’s annual family income should not exceed Rs 6 lakh, although further conditions may apply based on the specific scholarship category.

Financial Assistance Offered by SBI Asha Scholarship

The scholarship’s financial aid differs depending on the category of education. For students in Class 9 to Class 12, the maximum scholarship amount is Rs 15,000 per annum. Undergraduate students are eligible to receive up to Rs 75,000, while postgraduate students can attain up to Rs 1,50,000. Professional course students, including those pursuing MBBS, BDS, BTech, or BArch, may receive financial assistance of up to Rs 2,00,000.

Special provisions are available for students from IITs, who can receive up to Rs 2,00,000 annually, and those enrolled in IIMs for postgraduate diploma or MBA programmes, with a scholarship amounting to Rs 5,00,000. Students undertaking master’s degrees or higher studies abroad may receive financial aid reaching Rs 15,00,000 per year, making this scholarship substantial for those pursuing advanced education.

Every scholarship awarded is provided annually, ensuring ongoing financial support for students who qualify each year.

Application Process and Important Dates

The application process for the SBI Asha Scholarship is fully online. Interested candidates should visit the official SBI Asha Scholarship portal, where they can register and complete the online application form. It is essential to upload all required documents, which include identification proofs like the Aadhaar card, income proof, a recent marksheet, the admission letter or fee receipt, a bonafide certificate or college ID, as well as bank account details. For those applying under the abroad category, a passport is necessary.

The timeline for the application process is critical. Applications opened on July 22, 2026, and the final date for submission is September 4, 2026, at 11:59 pm. Tentative results are expected to be announced in December 2026, providing students with an overview of the outcomes soon after the application deadline.

This initiative is designed to alleviate financial burdens on deserving students, fostering academic excellence and supporting higher education across a diverse set of courses and disciplines.
