CM Vijay Introduces Rs 1,000-Crore Revitalisation Plan for Perambur

The CSR Journal Magazine

Chief Minister Vijay has announced a substantial development initiative worth nearly Rs 1,000 crore for the Perambur Assembly constituency. This plan aims to enhance urban infrastructure, housing, women’s safety, and public spaces. The announcement reflects the Chief Minister’s commitment to improving the living conditions and overall quality of life for residents in the area.

In the recent Assembly elections held in April, CM Vijay won the Perambur constituency by a significant margin, securing over 38,000 votes against competitors from both the DMK and AIADMK parties. This victory has reinforced his standing within Tamil Nadu’s political landscape. Notably, he had also won the Tiruchy East constituency but opted to vacate it in order to maintain his representation for Perambur.

One of the primary components of the development package is a women’s safety initiative included in the Chief Minister’s MLA Local Area Development (LAD) fund. The plan encompasses the construction of six smart bus shelters equipped with CCTV cameras, mobile charging ports, Wi-Fi connectivity, and continuous live monitoring connected to a central control room. Additionally, four more such smart shelters are planned for various locations across North Chennai.

Pedestrian Plaza and Enhanced Facilities Proposed

Perambur is set to introduce its first pedestrian plaza, with an estimated cost of Rs 15 crore. This project, designed along North Avenue, will feature a designated food street on one side and a pedestrian-only area on the other, inspired by the popular food street in Anna Nagar. Initial discussions regarding the pedestrian plaza took place in 2024 during the previous DMK government, and its realisation has been revitalised under CM Vijay’s regime.

During a review meeting held on Monday, Greater Chennai Corporation Commissioner Dr Sameeran revealed that the plan for the pedestrian plaza was a topic of conversation, with the Chief Minister directing officials to expedite the preparation of a detailed project report. This initiative is part of a larger effort to enhance public spaces in the area, making them more accessible and welcoming for residents.

CM Vijay’s visit to Perambur on Monday marked his first trip to the constituency since taking office. He inaugurated his newly renovated MLA office, which now includes a dedicated workspace for him, CCTV surveillance for security, and a ten-member team to assist with daily public grievances and constituency-related matters. Such measures are aimed at improving governance and ensuring prompt attention to the needs of local citizens.

Mobile Application for Public Grievances Launched

In addition to the announced projects, CM Vijay launched a new mobile application designed specifically for residents of Perambur. This application allows citizens to submit and track complaints related to essential services such as electricity, water supply, road maintenance, and sanitation. Furthermore, it offers access to various government welfare schemes, promoting transparency and efficiency in addressing public concerns.

This initiative reflects the administration’s goal of leveraging technology to enhance interaction between the government and citizens. By facilitating better communication and service delivery, the new app is expected to empower residents and improve civic engagement in Perambur.

Overall, the developmental measures outlined by CM Vijay demonstrate a strategic approach to addressing the urban challenges faced by Perambur, with a particular emphasis on safety and community welfare. The various initiatives aim to create a sustainable environment that meets the needs of its residents, thereby fostering a sense of security and well-being.
