In a separate matter, the Tamil Nadu Police have initiated an investigation into allegations of sexual abuse involving an 84-year-old businessman. This comes in response to directives from the Director General of Police, who has ordered a detailed re-examination of the prior allegations.
To facilitate this investigation, authorities have formed a Special Investigation Team comprising four female Indian Police Service (IPS) officers. This team will focus on revisiting the claims surrounding the businessman, who is accused of having sexually abused multiple minor girls in addition to the initial complainant.
The Chennai Central Crime Branch has summoned earlier investigating officers who were involved in the case before it was closed. These officers, including Assistant Commissioner Yasmin and Anti-Vice Squad Inspectors Mahesh Kumar and Rajalakshmi, have been called to provide explanations regarding the original closure report.
These developments indicate a concerted effort by law enforcement to address sexual abuse cases effectively, particularly those involving minors. The involvement of a specialized women’s team reflects an increasing sensitivity towards the complexities of such cases, emphasising the need for thorough investigations and accountability in instances of sexual misconduct.
