BSF Nabs Bangladeshi Smuggler with Drugs Worth Over Rs 6 Crore in West Bengal’s Murshidabad

Murshidabad, West Bengal: In a major breakthrough against cross-border drug trafficking, the Border Security Force (BSF) South Bengal Frontier has foiled a large-scale smuggling attempt along the Indo-Bangladesh border in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. The operation, conducted by jawans of the Pirojpur Border Outpost, led to the seizure of 3.387 kg of heroin valued at approximately ₹6.77 crore and the arrest of a Bangladeshi smuggler.
According to BSF officials, the operation was based on intelligence inputs regarding an imminent smuggling attempt in the Sadamachar area. Acting swiftly, the jawans increased surveillance and, at around 4 PM on March 21, spotted two individuals moving suspiciously towards the international border. As the BSF personnel intervened, the suspects attempted to flee, discarding the contraband in nearby bushes. While one managed to escape, the jawans successfully apprehended the other and launched an extensive search operation.

Heroin seized from Bangladeshi national

The search led to the discovery of five packets containing brown powder, which was later confirmed to be heroin. During initial interrogation, the arrested smuggler admitted to being a Bangladeshi national involved in multiple smuggling activities. He revealed that he had received the drug consignment from his Indian accomplices and was supposed to deliver it to a Bangladeshi contact in exchange for money. However, the vigilant BSF jawans foiled the attempt, dealing a major blow to the smuggling network.
Following legal formalities, the accused and the seized heroin were handed over to the relevant authorities for further investigation.

Rising Drug Seizures Raise Security Concerns

This incident is part of a worrying trend of successive heroin recoveries along the Indo-Bangladesh border, triggering alarm among security agencies. The BSF has intensified its vigilance to curb the rising menace of drug trafficking, which poses a serious threat to national security.
A spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier lauded the relentless efforts of the BSF personnel, emphasizing that their unwavering dedication and timely action have not only disrupted illegal smuggling networks but have also significantly weakened the morale of smugglers.
With drug trafficking on the rise, security forces remain on high alert to prevent further attempts and safeguard the region from the growing narcotics trade.
