Pakistan Returns BSF Jawan Kumar Shaw to India After 20 Days in Custody
In a diplomatic breakthrough, Pakistan on Wednesday handed over Border Security Force (BSF) constable Purnam Kumar Shaw. The BSF constable was returned to the Indian authorities after 20 days in Pakistan army’s custody. The handover took place at around 10:30 am at the Attari-Wagah border in Punjab. This comes just days after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire following a four-day military conflict.
Shaw Detained After Accidental Border Crossing
According to reports BSF constable Shaw is a resident of Hooghly in West Bengal. He was posted with the BSF’s 182nd Battalion, was apprehended by Pakistan Rangers on April 23. He reportedly crossed the international border inadvertently.
This comes as Shaw was escorting a group of Indian farmers harvesting wheat in the Mamdot block of Ferozepur district, Punjab. According to BSF officials, Shaw, who was armed and in uniform. He moved towards a shaded area to rest and unknowingly stepped across the Zero Line into Pakistani territory.
First Deployment and Confusing Terrain
Shaw was newly posted to the border region on April 10. This makes his first official deployment in the Ferozepur sector. The BSF officials explained that the geographical layout of the region often confuses new personnel. The farmlands in this region stretch up to 150 meters beyond the border fence but remain Indian territory.
The farmers are allowed access under BSF supervision during the harvest season. However, in this case, only Shaw inadvertently crossed into Pakistan, while the farmers stayed behind.
Delayed Return Amid Border Tensions
According to reports Shaw’s detention occurred a day after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam. The deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, left 26 people, mostly tourists, dead. This incident led to heightened tensions between the two countries’ India-Pakistan. Soon tensions escalated on the border; this may have contributed to the delay in securing Shaw’s release.
Pakistan initially remained unresponsive despite repeated pleas from Indian authorities, to release the officer. The BSF officials maintained communication with Pakistan Rangers through flag meetings and other official channels to push for his repatriation.
BSF Confirms Peaceful Handover
In an official statement, the BSF said, “Today at 10:30 hrs, Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw has been taken back from Pakistan by the BSF at the Attari – Wagha border. Constable Purnam Kumar Shaw had inadvertently crossed over to Pakistani territory while on operational duty in the area of Ferozepur sector on 23rd April 2025 around 11:50 hrs and was detained by Pak Rangers.”
“With the consistent efforts of BSF through regular flag meetings with Pakistan Rangers and through other communication channels, repatriation of BSF Constable has become possible,” it added.
Woman Arrested in Ghaziabad for Filing False Gang Rape Complaint
A 24-year-old woman from Ghaziabad has been arrested for allegedly fabricating a gang rape case involving a man and two others, according to officials from the Kavi Nagar police circle. The arrest followed a detailed police probe that found significant contradictions in her account.
The woman had filed a police complaint on May 5 at Madhuban Bapudham Police Station, claiming that a man she met at the district court lured her to a roadside eatery with the pretext of returning intimate photos and videos. She alleged that the man, along with two unknown accomplices, forced her into a car and raped her as it was in motion, later abandoning her in a deserted area.
However, law enforcement authorities began to suspect foul play after checking CCTV footage from the dhaba where the alleged incident began. Contrary to her claims, the video showed the woman dining alone and leaving the premises without any interaction with the accused.
CCTV, Phone Data Expose False Rape Claims
Further, surveillance from the accused’s residence reportedly confirmed that he was home during the entire timeframe she had mentioned. Investigators also used mobile phone tracking data, which showed that the accused and the complainant were never in the same location that evening.
Medical tests performed on the woman showed no signs of injury or evidence consistent with her allegations. These discrepancies led officers to scrutinise her background further.
As investigations progressed, police uncovered that the woman had been previously charged in multiple criminal cases across Ghaziabad. She was allegedly associated with a gang operating in the area and had been booked under the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. Officials confirmed she was personally named in at least five FIRs related to extortion, rioting, criminal intimidation, and unlawful restraint.
How Police Discovered the False Allegations?
Adding to the complexity, police also discovered an earlier complaint filed by the same woman, alleging that in 2022 the accused—described as a finance professional raped her at his office and used intimate footage to threaten her. However, like her recent claim, this older allegation also lacked corroborative evidence.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Swatantra Kumar Singh said the woman has now been arrested for filing a false report and fabricating evidence. She has been booked under Section 231 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which addresses false evidence.
The case highlights growing concern among authorities over misuse of legal mechanisms and the serious consequences false allegations can have, both for the accused and for genuine victims of sexual violence.
India busts Pakistan’s fake claims saying S-400 ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ destroyed, orders more from Russia
Just as it has been the case in the past few days, once again Pakistan’s propaganda lies have been exposed through photographs of Prime Minister Narendra Modi posing near S-400 circulating on social media. Pakistan has been circulating fake news that their military has successfully destroyed India’s Russian made S-400 Triumf Air Defence System. Pakistan also claimed it had killed 60 Indian soldiers in its assault.
Meanwhile India has requested additional S-400 missiles from Russia, according to a report by news agency Sputnik India on Tuesday.
PM Modi poses with S-400 ‘Sudarshan Chakra’ in background
Exposing Pakistan’s propaganda, photographs featuring Prime Minister Narendra Modi from his visit to the Adampur air base on Tuesday show the PM posing with soldiers with the S-400 in the background! PM Modi paid a surprise visit to the Adampur air base in an IAF C-130J Super Hercules aircraft. Images of fully operational MiG-29s, the S-400 air defence system, and the PM saluting air warriors send a clear message: Pakistan’s each and every claim has been proven fake.
Even India’s defence forces, during an official briefing amid the conflict earlier this week, categorically rejected Pakistan’s “false narratives” and asserted that all Indian defence infrastructures were fully operational and capable of effectively combating any escalation.
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) had recently claimed that its hypersonic missiles destroyed the S-400 system in Adampur. The PAF also circulated fake videos supporting their claim. On Tuesday afternoon during his visit to Adampur airbase, PM Modi interacted with the Indian Air Force warriors, who played a crucial role in India’s Operation Sindoor— a series of targeted strikes at terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK) early on May 7 and combating Pakistan’s drones and missile attacks in the following days.
The airbase, which was one of the active airbases during Operation Sindoor, was the key military location that the Pakistani military attempted to attack last week on Wednesday after India launched Operation Sindoor, as revealed by the Defence Ministry.
