PM to Visit RSS Headquarters in Nagpur
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit the RSS headquarters this Sunday, something no other Prime Minister has ever done. While Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekhar Bhawankule insisted that there is nothing political about the visit to Nagpur, this visit can be seen as an attempt to ease tension between the BJP and the RSS.
PM’s Schedule
“The PM will lay the foundation stone of the Madhav Netralaya Premium Centre building and share the dias with Mohan Bhagwat (RSS Chief) during this event. The PM will also visit the Hedgewar Smruti Mandir, which is the RSS headquarters. After this, he will go to Deekshabhoomi where B R Ambedkar and his followers embraced Buddhism,” told Bawankule to reporters.
The Hedgewar Smriti Mandir has memorials dedicated to RSS founder Keshav Balaram Hedgewar and MS Gowalkar, the second sarsanghchalak of the RSS. Ex-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited the memorial in 2007 for the centenary celebrations of Gowalkar. During this time, he had stepped down as prime minister after the BJP lost the elections in 2004.
Modi himself last visited the RSS headquarters in September 2012 to attend the funeral of late RSS chief K S Sudarshan. Back then, he was serving as the Gujarat chief minister.
Punjab Vidhan Sabha Passes New Law on Water Pollution Amidst Criticism
Punjab Vidhan Sabha adopted the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Amendment Act, 2024 on Friday by passing a resolution to this effect. The act was enacted by the centre, amid criticism by environmentalists. The Punjab Cabinet approved the amended law on February 27 and became the 19th state to adopt the law.
The legislation was enacted by the Parliament on February 15, 2024, and was implemented by Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and the Union Territories.
Opposition to the Act
Cabinet Minister Dr Ravjot Singh moved the resolution, which was passed amidst opposition from the Congress. The act will replace a decade-old statute and will decriminalise several violations relating to water pollution. The act will also introduce financial penalties ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹ 15 lakh against the previous provisions that allowed for imprisonment of up to six years. According to the new rules, the committee electing the chairman of the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) will now also have a representative from the centre.
Congress member Avtar Henry Jr. opposed the resolution, stating that the central act was an attack on the federal structure. He also opposed the abolition of provisions of punishments in the new legislation. Jaskirat Singh, an environmental activist of the Public Action Committee, said that the passing of the law was shocking. Singh also added that the resolution should not have been read in CM’s absence.
“It is his daughter’s first birthday. Today, he was busy organising a function in the evening where many officers, leaders and others are invited.”
RCB Breaks 17-Year Chepauk Curse, Defeats CSK by 50 Runs
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has achieved a monumental victory against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Friday, March 28, in the IPL 2025 match at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. Under the captaincy of Rajat Patidar, RCB broke their 17-year losing streak at Chepauk with a commanding 50-run win over CSK. The visitors posted a formidable total of 196/7 and restricted the hosts to 146/8 in their chase.
At the beginning of RCB’s innings, its batting line-up struggled for consistency, while managing to set a competitive target. Quick 32 runs off 16 balls by Phil Salt gave them an early boost. However, it was the captain Rajat Patidar’s half-century with a score of 51 runs off 32 balls, that grounded the team. Tim David provided the finishing touch to RCB’s innings with an unbeaten 22 runs off just eight balls.
CSK’s fielding performance was sub-par as they dropped three crucial catches of Patidar, which proved costly for the team. Despite their renowned spin attack led by Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, Chennai could not capitalise on the sticky pitch conditions.
RCB Bowlers Dominate CSK’s Chase
RCB’s bowlers delivered an outstanding performance to defend their total effectively. Josh Hazlewood led the attack with figures of 3/21 in four overs, while Yash Dayal (2/18) and Liam Livingstone (2/28) provided noteworthy support. Bhuvneshwar Kumar also made an impressive debut for RCB with economical bowling figures of 1/20.
The chase for CSK did not begin very strongly as their top order collapsed during the powerplay overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad and debutant Rachin Ravindra attempted to stabilise the innings but fell short of building momentum. Ajinkya Rahane and Daryl Mitchell contributed briefly, but the pressure mounted as wickets fell regularly.
The standout performers for CSK were Shivam Dube and Ravindra Jadeja, who displayed an unbeaten partnership of 66 runs for the fifth wicket. However, their efforts came too late, and CSK fell short by a significant margin.
17-Year Curse
This marks RCB’s first victory at Chepauk since 2008, ending a long-standing jinx against CSK at their home ground. With two wins in two matches this season, RCB has started IPL 2025 on a high note.

Madras High Court grants interim anticipatory bail to Kunal Kamra
The Madras High Court on Friday granted interim anticipatory bail to comedian Kunal Kamra, who has stirred a controversy with his jibe at Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde. The High Court granted Kamra relief on the condition that he should execute a bond to the satisfaction of the judicial magistrate at Vanur in Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu. Justice Sunder Mohan also issued notice to 2nd Respondent (Khar Police) and posted the matter to April 7.
Popular stand-up comedian Kunal Kamra approached the Madras High Court on Friday seeking protection from arrest. He is a resident of Villupuram town in Tamil Nadu which comes under the jurisdiction of Madras High Court and hence he had filed the petition there. The petition mentions that Kamra had shifted to Tamil Nadu from Mumbai in 2021 and has been “ordinarily a resident of this State since then” and that he feared arrest by Mumbai Police, which has summoned him twice. Kamra’s counsel has also mentioned that the comedian has been receiving death threats after the controversial performance.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police has summoned him at Khar Police Station on March 31. A Zero FIR was lodged against Kamra under Sections 353(1)(b), 353(2) [Public mischief] and 356(2) [Defamation] BNS by Shiv Sena MLA Muraji Patel. The FIR was later transferred to Khar police station in Mumbai.
Kamra’s “traitor” jibe at Eknath Shinde
Kamra, known for his satirical style of comedy, was performing at a stand-up show at the Unicontinental Hotel in Mumbai’s Khar area, where he mocked Shinde’s defection from the Shiv Sena and his alliance with the BJP by allegedly calling him a “gaddar” (traitor) in an indirect manner. The jokes, which included a parody of a song from the Bollywood movie “Dil To Pagal Hai”, were aimed at Shinde, even though Kamra did not mention him by name. His performance quickly gained attention on social media, following which it triggered a series of protests and even violence.
Kunal Kamra refuses to apologise
Refusing to apologise for his act, the comedian issued a statement on social media where he wrote, “I will not apologise. What I said is exactly what Mr. Ajit Pawar (1st Deputy CM) said about Mr. Eknath Shinde (2nd Deputy CM). I don’t fear this mob and I will not be hiding under my bed, waiting for this to die down.”
Taking a jibe at Indian media for reporting about the controversy, he further wrote, “To the media faithfully reporting this circus: Remember that press freedom in India ranks at 159.”
Highlighting the importance of freedom of speech in India, Kunal Kamra further mentioned in his statement, “Our right to freedom of speech and expression is not only to be used to fawn over the powerful and rich even though today’s media would have us believe otherwise. Your inability to take a joke at the expense of a powerful public figure does not change the nature of my right. As far as I know, it is not against the law to poke fun at our leaders and the circus that is our political system.”
