Elderly Woman Dies from Alleged Noise-Induced Health Crisis in UP

The CSR Journal Magazine

A sixty-year-old woman tragically passed away while on her way to a temple in the Aliganj region of Uttar Pradesh. The incident reportedly occurred on August 24, 2026, as Kamla Devi, accompanied by her daughter-in-law Nanu, was en route to the Gauri Shankar temple for a ritual known as jalabhishek. The local police confirmed the details on August 25, 2026.

The journey took an alarming turn when the family alleged that the loud music from a DJ system mounted on a tractor-trolley was responsible for Kamla Devi’s distress. According to family member Dorilal, the sound levels from the DJ were excessively high, reaching approximately 400 to 450 metres away from their location.

Upon hearing the loud music, Kamla allegedly began to experience severe chest pain, prompting her to sit down. Reports indicate that she did not regain consciousness after sitting down, further raising concerns about the health repercussions of such loud noise.

Family Claims Noise Induced Health Crisis

The family underscored their belief that the loud sound and accompanying vibrations from the DJ system were instrumental in causing Kamla’s fatal chest pain. Dorilal articulated these concerns, emphasising that such a scenario likely worsened her pre-existing health conditions. Reports revealed that Kamla Devi had a history of high blood pressure and was known to be sensitive to loud noises.

Despite the tragic circumstances, the family reportedly opted against an autopsy, choosing instead to take Kamla Devi’s body home for final rites, which were conducted on August 25, 2026. The decision has raised questions regarding potential investigations into the causative factors surrounding her death.

Circle Officer Hemant Upadhyay confirmed that the family had declined the post-mortem procedure, stressing that they took the body directly home for her last rites. The official noted that the family’s refusal may limit any further inquiries into the nature of the incident.

Community Response and Awareness of Loud Music Risks

This incident has ignited discussions within the local community regarding the implications of excessive noise levels, particularly during religious events. Many residents have called for greater awareness of the potential health risks associated with loud music, especially for individuals with existing health issues.

Residents expressed concerns about the necessity of regulations governing sound levels during festive occasions. The involvement of loudspeakers and DJ systems during celebrations has become increasingly common, challenging existing norms of public decency and respect for community health.

The tragic event has prompted calls for better education on noise pollution and its effects on vulnerable populations, particularly the elderly. Community leaders have highlighted the importance of considering the health of residents when planning any public events that feature loud music.
