Bangladesh Dismisses Idea of Alliance between Dhaka, Beijing and Islamabad.

Bangladesh’s interim government of Mohammad Yunus dismissed the idea of any emerging alliance between Dhaka, Beijing, and Islamabad. The Nobel laureate turned national leader said on Thursday that the recent meeting between the three countries was not political in nature.

“We are not forming any alliance,” said the Foreign Affairs Advisor, M. Touhid Hossain, when asked to comment about the trilateral meeting in China’s Kunming region on June 19. “It was a meeting at the official level, not the political level… No element of formation of any alliance,” said Hossain.

In the press conference held at the Foreign Ministry in Bangladesh, reporters also asked if the meeting was intended to sideline India. The Foreign Affairs Advisor assertively answered, “It is certainly not (about) targeting a third party, I assure you.”

The Foreign Ministry also said in its earlier statements that representatives from Bangladesh, China, and Pakistan held an informal trilateral meeting on the sidelines of two sponsored regional events.
