Andhra Pradesh CM N Chandrababu Naidu Reviews LPG supply, Confirming 14,000 Metric Tonnes Available

The CSR Journal Magazine

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a review meeting on March 17 to assess the gas supply situation in the state. The meeting was conducted via Real Time Governance Society (RTGS) and included participation from Chief Secretary Sai Prasad and senior officials from various departments. Key representatives from petroleum companies along with officials from GAIL and ONGC were also in attendance.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister noted that Andhra Pradesh currently has an available stock of 14,000 metric tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), with additional supplies expected shortly. He assured that there are no existing issues with LPG supply in the state. Naidu emphasized the need for an uninterrupted supply to essential services such as hospitals, hostels, and temples, instructing officials to prepare alternative strategies for immediate public access if necessary.

He highlighted that adequate reserves are in place to meet demand for the next 15 days. In light of these developments, he directed the introduction of electronic Know Your Customer (e-KYC) and One-Time Password (OTP) systems to prevent gas cylinder diversion and mitigate public anxiety regarding supply. Moreover, the Chief Minister called for an increase in the availability of induction stove stocks throughout the state.

Naidu encouraged gas companies to focus on enhancing short-term production and improving distribution efficiency. He advocated for the expansion of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network, urging the utilization of natural gas from the Krishna-Godavari Basin for household supply via a piped network. The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of maximizing the use of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier in the day, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd reassured that the LPG supply across the country remains stable and uninterrupted, despite a surge in early refill bookings from some households. In a statement released on X, the company acknowledged a temporary spike in demand due to advance or panic bookings affecting delivery schedules. They reiterated that LPG supply continues to be secure and encouraged households to book refills only when necessary to facilitate timely distribution.

IndianOil’s representatives advised customers against panic bookings, emphasizing that even minor adjustments in booking behavior can considerably impact distribution efficiency. They assured consumers that their teams and distributors are committed to ensuring timely deliveries of LPG cylinders to households nationwide.

The discourse surrounding gas supply has gained significance amid ongoing global energy supply disruptions, influenced by the current conflict in West Asia. As such, state officials continue to prioritize reliable gas availability for the public, ensuring that essential services are adequately supported during these challenging times.
