Zubeen Garg Death Case: DSP Sandipan Garg Arrested, Five in Custody as Investigation Deepens

The CSR Journal Magazine

Mayabini singer Zubeen Garg’s mysterious death has taken a fresh turn, as a new arrest happened late last night. Police have arrested Zubeen’s cousin, DSP Sandipan Garg. Sandipan is one of the prime suspects, as he was with Zubeen on the same yacht in Singapore when the singer allegedly died due to drowning. Currently, five people are in police custody and are being interrogated in the case.

DSP Sandipan in seven-day remand

The CID conducted multiple rounds of questioning with Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sandipan before arresting him. Initially, he was interrogated along with several close aides of Zubeen. Later, he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Court, and today he has been taken into police remand for seven days. The SIT (Special Investigation Team) had requested 14 days’ remand, but the court granted seven days.

Who all are being interrogated in Zubeen’s death case?

Four people had been arrested before Sandipan’s arrest — Zubeen’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami, his manager Siddharth Sharma, event organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, and musician Amritprava Mahanta.

According to police sources and a previous report by The CSR Journal, Shekhar Jyoti Goswami has made allegations that Zubeen’s manager Sharma and event organiser Mahanta poisoned the Mayabini singer. Goswami also alleged that Singapore was deliberately chosen as the venue to make the crime look like an accident.

Fans anticipate Zubeen’s final film

The film titled Roi Roi Binale was Zubeen’s personal project, and he was supposed to return from Singapore to shoot the final scenes. To fulfil his last wish, Zubeen’s wife Garima Saikia Garg and his sister Palme Borthakur have decided to complete the project.

Recently, a video shared on social media showed the team of Roi Roi Binale filming the last few sequences at Assam Royal Global University in Guwahati. Zubeen’s wife was seen actively involved on set, overseeing the final work. Along with the video, the caption read, “The film Roi Roi Binale concludes with the final creative touch of the legendary Zubeen Garg, a poignant tribute to the maestro’s unmatched artistry and his enduring contributions to Assamese cinema and music.”

Zubeen Garg’s AI-Generated Voice Will Be Used

Director of the movie Roi Roi Binale, Rajesh Bhuyan, shared a few details about the project. He said that they had been working on the film for three years: “The story and music of the film were created by Zubeen himself. This is the first Assamese musical film. Most of the work was completed, except for the background score. Zubeen wanted the film to release on October 31, so we’ve decided to honour his wish and release it on the same date — not just in Assam, but across the country,” Bhuyan said.

The director also confirmed that, as a tribute to the singer, dubbing will be done using Zubeen’s own voice through AI technology. Bhuyan explained that around 80–90% of Zubeen’s voice recordings are clear, as they were captured with a lapel mic when he was alive, and hence will be used as they are in the film.
