UP Congress Leader Mamta Chaudhary Accuses Ajay Rai of Anti-Dalit Sentiment

The CSR Journal Magazine

Uttar Pradesh Congress leader Mamta Chaudhary has levelled serious accusations against former state party chief Ajay Rai, claiming he exhibited anti-Dalit sentiments during an altercation at the party’s headquarters in Lucknow. Chaudhary stated that during this confrontation, Rai allegedly threatened her and verbally abused her, creating a hostile environment within the party.

According to Chaudhary, Jai Rai instructed her to “stay within your limits” and allegedly called for physical intimidation, In her account, she emphasised her identity as a Dalit and claimed that Rai’s actions were indicative of his anti-Dalit attitude.

Chaudhary detailed the chaotic scene, asserting that Rai’s associates acted aggressively towards her and other female party workers. They reportedly demanded to know what she had said, raising shoes and slippers as they physically assaulted the women present. This, she alleged, was a manifestation of Rai’s purported thuggish behaviour.

Context of the Confrontation at Congress Headquarters

This clash occurred on Sunday during an event marking the new appointment of Aradhana Mishra as state president and Imran Masood in a prominent role within the party. The gathering quickly turned tumultuous, as emotions escalated among attendees. Footage from the incident has since surfaced, showing an intense scene where party members exchanged insults, highlighting the tension within the ranks.

Chaudhary’s allegations are not isolated; she noted a history of hostility towards Dalits within the party structure. She accused Rai of having previously exhibited aggressive behaviour, citing an instance where he reportedly pushed another senior leader, Imran Masood. These incidents compound Chaudhary’s allegations and suggest a deeper issue within the party concerning gender and caste relations.

The recent confrontation has raised significant concerns about the internal dynamics of the Congress party in Uttar Pradesh. Chaudhary’s claims indicate an ongoing struggle regarding the treatment of Dalit members and the overarching atmosphere of aggression that some experience. Her statement brings to light the challenges that women and marginalized groups reportedly face in political organisations.

Response from Ajay Rai and Congress Leadership

Following the altercation, Ajay Rai sought recourse through the party’s higher echelons. He lodged a complaint with senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari, advocating for disciplinary action against Chaudhary. Rai argued that her behaviour was detrimental to the party’s image and created a toxic atmosphere within the organisation.

As of now, the Congress leadership has yet to make an announcement regarding any formal action in response to Rai’s demand for Chaudhary’s expulsion from the party. This delay in response has prompted speculation about the organisation’s handling of internal conflicts, particularly concerning allegations of caste-based discrimination.

Rai’s assertions regarding Chaudhary’s conduct have sparked discussions about the potential implications for party cohesion and the efficacy of its internal resolution mechanisms. The situation continues to evolve, with party members awaiting an official statement from Congress leaders regarding the unfolding events.
