Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar Condemns Alleged Attack by TMC Ahead of West Bengal Elections

The CSR Journal Magazine

Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar has condemned what he describes as attacks by supporters of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) during a recent rally addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Speaking from the rally venue, Majumdar claimed that “scores will be settled” with those responsible for the alleged violence.

He expressed concern over the treatment of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, indicating that their vehicles had been vandalized and asserting that they would document all incidents of aggression.

Clashes Erupt Between TMC and BJP Supporters

The remarks followed reports of clashes between BJP and TMC supporters in the Girish Park area, where stone-pelting ensued. Majumdar emphasized the importance of the Prime Minister’s promises and stated that the party would strive to meet these commitments in light of the upcoming elections. He noted that the Prime Minister had symbolically “sounded the election conch,” suggesting that a significant political change is anticipated in the near future.

TMC Accuses BJP of Violence

In response to the incidents, West Bengal Minister Shashi Panja accused BJP supporters of attacking TMC workers and even vandalizing her residence. She claimed to have been targeted directly, stating that a brick was thrown at her. Panja went as far as to label BJP supporters “murderers,” asserting that the attackers were responsible for injuring more than fifty TMC members during the clashes. She criticized the BJP for the violence, describing the situation as unprecedented lawlessness in Kolkata.

Pre-Election Tensions Rise in Bengal

The altercation highlights the escalating tensions in West Bengal as the political landscape shifts ahead of the 2026 West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections. While the TMC seeks to maintain its hold over the region, the BJP is aiming to build on its previous success, having secured 77 seats in the last electoral cycle. The division between the two political parties appears to be intensifying, reflecting the state’s contentious political environment as the next elections draw near.
