Two pilots died following a crash of an Indian Air Force (IAF) Sukhoi Su-30MKI jet in Karbi Anglong district, Assam, during a training mission. The IAF reported that the Su-30MKI, which was on a training exercise, crashed approximately 60 kilometers from Jorhat. Officials mentioned that radar contact was lost shortly after the aircraft took off from Jorhat airport. The Su-30MKI is a multirole, long-range fighter jet developed by the Russian manufacturer Sukhoi and is produced under license by Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for the IAF.

According to information from news agency ANI, locals in the vicinity reported hearing a loud explosion and were seen utilizing torches and lights to assist in the search efforts. The crash site is located around 60 kilometers from Jorhat, and a resident disclosed to ANI that they heard a significant noise followed by an explosion. Authorities from the Chowki Wala police station were present, conducting aerial searches with helicopters, as no traces of the pilots had been discovered as of the report.
