Brand New Thar Takes a Tumble: SUV Crashes Out of Delhi Showroom’s First Floor

The CSR Journal Magazine

A simple car delivery ritual turned into a frightening accident in East Delhi’s Nirman Vihar when a brand-new Mahindra Thar SUV crashed through the glass wall of a showroom and fell from the first floor. The shocking event occurred around 5 pm on Monday, just as a couple was receiving their newly purchased vehicle.

According to officials, the woman behind the wheel, Maani Pawar (29), had just bought the SUV with her husband, Pradeep, both residents of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad. As part of a traditional car delivery ritual, Maani placed lemons under the tyres to be crushed slowly as a symbol of good luck. But things went wrong when she accidentally hit the accelerator, sending the car careening forward.

SUV Crashes Through Showroom Wall, Falls from First Floor

The vehicle smashed through a glass wall and plummeted from the showroom’s first-floor display area, landing on the street below. A video showing the wreckage including an overturned SUV and shattered glass was widely circulated on social media soon after.

Three people were inside the vehicle at the time: Maani, her husband Pradeep, and a salesman named Vikas, who was explaining the features of the car. “The lady, her husband and one worker of the showroom Vikas were inside the car. Vikas, the salesman, was explaining the function of the car,” a police officer told news agency PTI.

Police began investigating the incident after Malik Hospital in Nirman Vihar reported receiving Maani Pawar as a patient at 6:08 PM. She had been admitted with injuries sustained in the accident. “On Monday at about 6.08 pm, the medico-legal case (MLC) of Maani Pawar, resident of Indirapuram in Ghaziabad, was received from Malik Hospital in Nirman Vihar. On enquiry, it was found Maani and her husband Pradeep purchased one Thar Rox car from a Mahindra showroom situated at Nirman Vihar,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Abhishek Dhania.

The car involved in the crash was a Mahindra Thar Rox, priced at around Rs 27 lakh, and was parked in the first-floor display section of the Shiva Auto Car Mahindra showroom. The vehicle was in the process of being handed over to the new owners when the mishap happened.

No injuries Reported

While the visuals of the crash sparked concern, no serious injuries were reported. Maani received treatment at the hospital and was later discharged. Her husband and the showroom staffer escaped unharmed. Nearby property sustained minor damage, including a parked motorcycle.

No formal complaint has been registered in connection with the incident not by the couple nor by the dealership. “No one was injured and no complaint was received from anyone,” DCP Dhania confirmed.

Eyewitnesses were shocked to see the SUV burst through the glass and fall to the road below. The vehicle’s airbags deployed, helping to protect the occupants during the fall. Emergency responders arrived promptly, and the situation was brought under control.

Despite the chaotic scene and viral video, authorities have treated the matter as an accident, with no signs of foul play or mechanical failure. The showroom has not released an official statement.
