Shraddha Kapoor, Nora Fatehi Likely to Be Cleared in 2022 Drugs Case Over Lack of Evidence

The CSR Journal Magazine

The well-known actors Shraddha Kapoor and Nora Fatehi are reportedly set to be exonerated in connection with a significant drugs case from 2022, as findings from the Mumbai Police suggest a lack of evidence tying them to the alleged drug trafficking network. This indicates potential relief for other individuals involved, including Orhan Awatramani, an internet personality widely known as Orry, actor Siddhanth Kapoor, and political figure Zeeshan Siddique, who are also anticipated to be cleared in the supplementary chargesheet.

Origins of the Case

The ongoing investigation stems from a major law enforcement operation conducted in August 2022, which resulted in the arrest of Mohammad Salim Mohammad Suhail Shaikh, an individual alleged to be involved in illicit drug activities. The Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch and Anti-Narcotics Cell recovered mephedrone valued at Rs 1.19 lakh during this operation. Following his arrest, Shaikh reportedly disclosed that he had supplied drugs at gatherings attended by numerous prominent figures, which prompted the investigation to connect multiple high-profile names.

In 2025, the Anti-Narcotics Cell initiated questioning with several individuals named in the investigation, including Kapoor and Fatehi. Recent reports from the Indian Express indicate that investigators have not uncovered sufficient material evidence to tie these celebrities to the alleged drug supply operation.

A source familiar with the investigation has revealed that police have finalised their inquiry and are preparing a supplementary chargesheet. An earlier chargesheet was filed against three individuals, while the supplementary document is set to address two arrested suspects and others who remain at large. The source confirmed the lack of evidence connecting the celebrities to the case at this time.

Implications of the Findings

This latest development provides much-needed clarity surrounding a case that has attracted considerable public and media attention due to the involvement of well-known figures from both the film industry and other areas of public life. Although investigations are still ongoing regarding those directly implicated in the drug supply network, the absence of incriminating evidence against Kapoor and Fatehi has resulted in their exclusion from any further legal actions.

In response to the recent updates, Orhan Awatramani took to social media to address the matter. He shared a screenshot of the news report and expressed his frustration about the sensationalised narrative that accompanied initial news coverage. His post read, “Where are all the clickbaiting jealous virgins who oversensationalised this and dragged my good name for weeks?” This response illustrates the discontent felt by individuals who were publicly linked to the case at its inception.

The clearing of Kapoor and Fatehi from this investigation marks a significant shift in the trajectory of a case that involved severe allegations. While questions remain for those still under scrutiny, the findings related to the actors signal a resolution for their involvement, allowing them to focus on their respective careers without the weight of this legal situation hanging over them.
