Rinku Singh Rejoins Team India for Super 8 Clash vs West Indies After Bereavement

Rinku Singh will join Team India in Kolkata tomorrow as they prepare for a critical Super 8 match against West Indies, scheduled for Sunday at Eden Gardens. This follows the recent passing of his father, Khanchand Singh.

Khanchand Singh passed away on Friday morning at a hospital in Greater Noida after a prolonged battle with fourth-stage cancer. The cremation took place later that day in Aligarh, attended by a significant number of mourners who paid their respects.

Grieving the loss, Rinku Singh participated in the funeral, carrying his father’s remains during the procession to the crematorium. His father’s death has elicited condolences from various quarters. Rajeev Shukla, Vice-President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), described the situation as deeply heartbreaking.

Following the announcement of his father’s condition, Rinku had previously returned home from the T20 World Cup squad to be with his family. His father’s health had deteriorated after India’s first Super 8 match against South Africa. Rinku later rejoined the Indian squad in Chennai ahead of a match against Zimbabwe on Thursday.

Rinku Singh’s World Cup performance has seen him in a challenging position, often arriving at the crease with limited balls left. Throughout five innings, he has accumulated only 24 runs with a top score of 11*. In the 10 T20 internationals played this year, Rinku has secured a total of 115 runs in eight innings, averaging 28.75, with a strike rate of 132.18 and a highest score of 44*.

As Team India prepares for their final Super 8 clash against the West Indies on Sunday, the outcome of this match will determine which team advances to the semi-finals alongside South Africa from Group 1.
