NEET Aspirant, 19, Dies by Suicide After Anxiety Over Exam Performance in Rajasthan

The CSR Journal Magazine

A 19-year-old student preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) reportedly died by suicide at her home in Rajasthan on Tuesday. The unfortunate event occurred in Indira Colony, Behror, following a period of significant stress related to her exam performance. The deceased, identified as Kamakshi, was discovered hanging by her family members, prompting immediate action and reporting to the authorities.

According to the Behror Police, Kamakshi had recently taken the NEET re-examination on June 21 and had expressed distress regarding her performance. The case has been recorded as an unnatural death, and an investigation has been initiated to gather further insights into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.

The incident became known around 1:30 pm when Kamakshi’s mother, a government school teacher, returned home and found her daughter unresponsive in a room. In panic, she alerted her husband, Jagdish Prasad, who rushed home to take Kamakshi down before proceeding to Park Hospital in Behror, where doctors confirmed her death.

Family Background and Aspirations

Kamakshi was the eldest child among three siblings in her family. Her mother’s role as a government school teacher complemented her father’s position as a teacher at a private institution. The family had long recognised Kamakshi’s aspiration to become a doctor, which was a motivating factor behind her preparation for the highly competitive NEET examination.

In her pursuit of this goal, Kamakshi dedicated significant time and effort to her studies, illustrating her commitment to the medical field. Unfortunately, the pressures associated with the examination and the expectations she placed upon herself seemed to contribute to her mental state in the days leading up to the incident.

Police have stated that it appears prima facie to be a case of suicide, and they are conducting interviews with family members to gather more information. The family has indicated that Kamakshi had been feeling considerable anxiety, which they believe may have stemmed from her concerns over her examination results.

Investigation and Community Response

Following the discovery of Kamakshi’s body, local police promptly arrived at the hospital to take custody of her remains for a post-mortem examination. Once this procedure was completed, the body was returned to the family later in the evening to facilitate their arrangements for the funeral.

The community’s response to this tragic event has been one of shock and concern. Many local residents have expressed their condolences and sympathies to the bereaved family, highlighting the growing issue of mental health awareness, especially amongst students under academic pressure.

As the investigation unfolds, the Behror Police are focused on understanding the full context of the situation. They aim to ensure that any underlying issues, including mental health concerns that may affect students preparing for competitive examinations, are addressed through appropriate channels.
