Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) chief Mukesh Sahni has announced not to participate in the Bihar assembly elections this time. Earlier he had talked about contesting elections from Gauda Bauram seat of Darbhanga district, but now he has made it clear that he himself will not contest. Sahni said that after the formation of the Grand Alliance (Mahagathbandhan) government, his aim is to become Deputy CM. He has also rejected the proposal to go to Rajya Sabha.

Amid the ongoing tussle over seat sharing in the Grand Alliance, an agreement was reached between VIP, RJD and Congress by Thursday night. It was told by VIP that Mukesh Sahni is going to file nomination from Gowda Bauram seat on Friday. But on the last day of nomination, RJD candidate Afzal Ali filed his nomination from the same seat. Since then, speculations began as to whether Sahni would contest the elections or not.

Mukesh Sahni clarified the situation in a press conference on Friday afternoon. He said that he will not contest as a candidate in this election, but will campaign for his party’s candidates. He also said, “My goal is not to become Rajya Sabha member but to become Deputy CM when the Grand Alliance government is formed.”

What about VIP account?

VIP spokesperson Dev Jyoti said that VIP has got 15 seats in the alliance. Apart from this, RJD has also assured to give one Rajya Sabha and two Legislative Council (MLC) seats.

In such a situation, now the question is arising that when Sahni himself will not become an MLA, will he join the government through the Legislative Council (MLC)? According to party sources, he is firm on the demand of his Deputy CM and it is possible that if the Grand Alliance government is formed, he may become a part of the government as MLC.
