A joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch resulted in the arrest of a suspect linked to the shooting that occurred outside the residence of filmmaker Rohit Shetty. The individual has been identified as Pradeep Kumar, who is also known by the nickname Gaath. He was apprehended in the Chhadami Mattha area on the Agra-Etah road, under the jurisdiction of the Bah police station in Agra.

The shooting incident took place in February outside Shetty Tower, located in Juhu, Mumbai. According to reports, unidentified gunmen opened fire at the building, with bullets striking the glass railing of the balcony. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries resulting from the attack. Following the incident, security measures around the residence were significantly heightened.

Law enforcement authorities indicated that the shooting was allegedly executed on the orders of the Shubham Lonkar gang, with motives tied to extortion and a desire to instil fear within the film industry and the general public.

Collaboration Between Agencies and Arrest Outcome

The arrest of Pradeep Kumar was informed by technical analysis and cooperative intelligence sharing between the Mumbai Crime Branch and the UP STF. The operation was executed under the oversight of Additional Superintendent of Police Rakesh from the STF Field Unit in Agra.

During initial interrogations, it is reported that Kumar admitted his involvement in the shooting and mentioned associates identified as Sunny, Deepu, and Sonu. Authorities stated that the group aimed to establish a prominent presence in the underworld, enhancing their criminal activities.

After his arrest, Pradeep Kumar was transferred to the custody of the Mumbai Police team at the Bah police station. This marks him as the latest suspect to be apprehended concerning the case, with at least eight other individuals already in custody, including those identified as Pradeep Sharma alias Golu, Deepak, and Vishnu Kushwaha.

Legal Proceedings and Filmmaker’s Response

The case was formally registered in February and includes multiple charges under several legal provisions, such as the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Arms Act, the Maharashtra Police Act, and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act. Police are continuing their investigation into the matter while ensuring that those involved face appropriate legal consequences.

Commenting on the situation following the incident, Rohit Shetty took to social media to share a light-hearted post that seemingly referenced the shooting. He wrote, “All these years spent making action and comedy films, ab saala life mein hi action and comedy chal rahi hai,” indicating his resilience in the face of adversity.

Currently, Shetty is engaged in the production of “Golmaal 5,” which commenced filming on his 52nd birthday, March 14, 2026. The project will see the return of actor Sharman Joshi as Laxman, alongside the addition of Akshay Kumar to the ensemble cast, as confirmed in official announcements.
