The Indian team achieved a silver medal in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event at the Asian Games 2026, bringing attention to its strong showing in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, on September 26. The trio of Tilottama Sen, Vidarsa K Vinod, and Ashi Chouksey combined for a score of 1763-90x, reflecting their teamwork and skill in a highly competitive environment.

China took gold in this event, while India secured second place through consistent performances during the qualification rounds. Tilottama emerged as the standout shooter for India, scoring 590 points, followed closely by Vidarsa with 588 points and Ashi with 585 points. However, Ashi’s score was not enough to advance to the individual finals.

Both Tilottama Sen and Vidarsa K Vinod qualified for the women’s individual final, finishing third and sixth, respectively, in the qualification phase. Their performances illustrate the depth of talent within the Indian shooting team.

Details of Individual Scores and Qualifications

In the individual qualification, Tilottama’s scoring breakdown highlighted her proficiency across the shooting positions. She amassed a total of 590 points, with remarkable scores of 197 in kneeling, 199 in prone, and 196 in standing. Her consistent performance across all three stages played a crucial role in her advancement to the finals.

Vidarsa, too, demonstrated resilience, particularly after facing difficulties in the kneeling stage where she received a score of 193. Her ability to recover was evidenced by impressive scores of 199 in prone and 196 in standing, allowing her to finish the qualification with a total of 588 points.

Ashi Chouksey finished her qualification round with a score of 585 points after recording 196 in kneeling, 199 in prone, and 190 in standing. Despite a strong effort, she narrowly missed out on qualifying for the individual final, emphasising the competitiveness of the event.

Other Indian Achievements at the Games

Alongside the shooting team’s success, Sawan Barwal made headlines by winning a silver medal in the men’s marathon, setting a national record with a time of 2:11:37. His achievement showcases the growing standard of athletics in India on an international platform.

In the decathlon, Indian athletes Tejaswin Shankar and Thowfeeq Noushad finished fifth and seventh, respectively, in the 100m event, highlighting their performance under pressure. Later, Shankar excelled in the long jump, achieving a personal best of 7.53m and moving to second place overall with 1807 points. Noushad stood fourth with 1759 points, further indicating the strength of Indian athletics.

Canoe sprint events also saw Indian participants making progress, with Harshwardhan Shaktawat securing a fifth place in the men’s kayak single 500m semifinal to advance to Final B. Furthermore, Parvathy Geetha and Prasanna Kumar qualified for Final A after their strong showing in the mixed kayak double 500m semifinal.

In fencing, the women’s foil and men’s sabre teams advanced to the quarter-finals, demonstrating India’s competitiveness across multiple sports. The women’s foil team triumphed over Indonesia with a score of 45-24, while the men’s sabre secured victory against the Philippines, winning 45-27.

India’s participation in badminton had mixed results, with Lakshya Sen exiting after a close match against Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew in the men’s singles. Additionally, in table tennis, Yashaswini Ghorpade faced a challenging match, losing to Japan’s Miwa Harimoto in the women’s singles round 3.
