Imran Khan’s Vision Reportedly Almost Normal Ahead of Supreme Court Hearing

The CSR Journal Magazine

On August 17, 2026, the Supreme Court of Pakistan received information indicating that former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s eye condition has improved, with his vision described as “almost normal.” This update was submitted by authorities from the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. The improvement follows allegations regarding Khan’s deteriorating health, especially concerning his right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) condition, which first became apparent in late January 2026.

The court is set to hear Khan’s plea for medical treatment at Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad on August 18, 2026. A three-member bench led by Justice Shahid Wahid will deliberate on the matter. Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, has been in custody since August 5, 2023, following his conviction in a corruption case.

The jail authorities remarked on the comprehensive medical treatment Khan has received since developing the eye ailment. A report mentioned that medical specialists from notable institutions have attended to Khan’s health, visiting him regularly to monitor his condition and ensure early intervention.

Details of Medical Treatment Received

According to the report presented to the Supreme Court, Khan was treated at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad by leading ophthalmologists, including Dr Muhammad Arif Khan, the head of the department, and Dr Nadeem Qureshi, a specialised vitreo-retinal surgeon at Alshifa Trust Eye Hospital. The statement from the prison authorities detailed that these medical professionals had noted significant improvements in Khan’s eye health.

The report also highlighted the ongoing assessment and care provided by the jail administration. Medical officers have reportedly visited Khan three times daily to monitor his meals and to keep track of vital signs such as blood pressure, heart rate, and oxygen levels. Comprehensive medical records have been meticulously maintained since his incarceration.

The prison authorities underscored their commitment to Khan’s health, asserting that he and his wife, Bushra Bibi, who is also incarcerated, have received adequate medical attention. Numerous consultations from various specialists have been reported, indicating a thorough approach to their well-being.

Jail Conditions and Supreme Court Proceedings

In respect to visitation, the report noted that Khan has been able to meet with Bushra Bibi every Tuesday, with a total of 84 recorded meetings thus far. The prison administration conveyed to the Supreme Court that the health and well-being of both Khan and his wife have been prioritised.

The jail authorities have requested the Supreme Court to dismiss Khan’s plea for treatment, stating that it lacks merit. They have emphasised the adequacy of the healthcare facilities provided. As the case approaches the court’s deliberation, the focus remains on the medical evidence presented regarding Khan’s improved vision and overall health condition.

As the legal proceedings unfold, public attention is likely to remain on Imran Khan’s health and the implications of the Supreme Court’s decision regarding his treatment and incarceration conditions. The ruling is expected to offer clarity on both health and legal fronts, as the situation continues to develop.
