Hockey India has officially announced the decision to appoint Tim White as the Coach of the Indian Junior Women’s Hockey Team. White, an Australian high-performance coach, recently took on the role of Head Coach for the Accord Tamil Nadu Dragons in the Hockey India League. He aims to develop the next generation of talent in Indian women’s hockey.

White brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously coached the Belgium Under-21 Women’s Team, which won a Bronze Medal at the 2025 Junior World Cup in December. From 2021 to 2024, he was a key member of the coaching staff for the Belgium Women’s National Team, helping elevate its world ranking from #12 to #3. During this period, the team advanced to the semi-finals at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

Earlier in his coaching career, White served as the National Junior Coach for Australia, where he also achieved a Bronze Medal at the Junior World Cup. His extensive background in international hockey coaching positions him well to lead the junior team in India.

White Expresses Commitment to Indian Hockey

Upon his appointment, Tim White expressed enthusiasm for returning to India, noting the country’s vibrant hockey culture and the potential he observed in young athletes during his recent coaching experiences. He acknowledged the privilege of directing a full-time program and emphasized his goal of creating technically proficient players prepared to transition to the senior team.

White articulated his vision for the squad, stating, “We aim to simplify the game while focusing on both individual and team strengths. Our objective is to play attacking hockey while maintaining a disciplined defense. Physical conditioning will be essential to perform effectively for the entire 60 minutes. By mastering fundamental skills under pressure and emphasizing a team-first approach, we will be ready to meet any international challenge.”

Aiming for Strategic Growth in Junior Ranks

His appointment is considered a strategic move intended to integrate modern tactical discipline within India’s junior hockey framework. White’s previous roles include being the National Junior Coach for Hockey Australia and overseeing high-performance pathways in European hockey programs.

Dilip Tirkey, the President of Hockey India, welcomed White’s appointment, highlighting the significance of his proven success with both Belgian and Australian junior teams. Tirkey believes that White’s extensive expertise in high-performance coaching and athlete development will be instrumental in preparing the junior women’s team for the challenges faced in senior international competitions.

Bhola Nath Singh, Secretary General of Hockey India, stated that White’s appointment aligns with their commitment to offering world-class coaching to junior teams. He emphasized the critical phase between junior and senior hockey and expressed confidence that White’s leadership will aid young players in developing the technical and tactical skills necessary to excel at the highest levels.
