Gujarat Horror: Man Burnt Alive by Neighbours After Veranda Dispute in Kutch

The CSR Journal Magazine

A minor neighbourhood disagreement in Gujarat’s Kutch district spiralled into a shocking act of violence, leaving a 50-year-old man dead after he was allegedly set on fire by his neighbours. The incident occurred in the Rotary Nagar area of Gandhidham and has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Argument Over Veranda Turns Violent

According to police officials, the victim, Karsan Maheshwari, was involved in a dispute with people living nearby over sitting on the veranda of a house. What began as a routine quarrel reportedly escalated rapidly on Friday, culminating in a brutal and fatal attack.

Chased, Trapped and Set Ablaze

Investigators said Maheshwari got into a heated altercation with three women and one man from the neighbourhood. During the confrontation, the accused allegedly assaulted him with weapons, forcing him to run for safety. He reportedly took refuge inside a bathroom, but the attackers chased him, dragged him out, and poured diesel over his body before setting him on fire.

Victim Ran Out in Flames

Eyewitnesses told police that Maheshwari ran out of the house engulfed in flames, screaming for help. Local residents rushed to his aid and attempted to extinguish the fire by pouring water on him. An ambulance was immediately called, and he was taken to a hospital in Bhuj with critical burn injuries.

Despite medical intervention, Maheshwari succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at the hospital. Doctors confirmed that he had suffered severe burns, leaving little chance of survival.

Family Alleges Longstanding Tensions

A formal complaint was filed by the victim’s elder brother, Hirabhai Maheshwari. He told police that Karsan was unmarried and lived with their elderly mother. The family alleged that there had been repeated arguments with the neighbours over sitting outside the house, which eventually led to the violent confrontation.

Arrests Made, One Accused on the Run

Police identified the accused as three women—Premilaben, Anjuben, and Manjuben—and one male accomplice from the same locality. Three of the accused, including two women and the man, have been arrested. One woman remains absconding, and police teams are conducting raids to locate her.

A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is underway to reconstruct the sequence of events and recover additional evidence. Police officials said statements of witnesses are being recorded and forensic inputs are being examined to strengthen the case.
