The CSR Journal Magazine

On April 2, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel initiated the Piparia (Jhamkudi) River Revitalisation Project by laying the foundation stone at Matirala village in the Amreli district. This project aims to rejuvenate local water resources while promoting ecological sustainability. The initiative is a collaborative effort between the Government of Gujarat and the Dholakia Foundation, which is associated with the Hari Krishna Group, founded by Padma Shri Savji Dholakia.

Focus on Restoration and Community Benefits

The revitalisation project emphasizes restoring the Piparia (Jhamkudi) River and implementing sustainable practices to increase water flow, mitigate pollution, and support nearby communities that rely on the river for their livelihood. Through these efforts, the government aims to enhance ecological balance and improve the quality of life for local residents.

Inauguration of Girls’ Hostel and Bhojnalaya

During the same event, the Chief Minister also inaugurated a newly constructed state-of-the-art girls’ hostel and Bhojnalaya building at Devka Vidyapeeth in Rajula taluka, Amreli district. He unveiled the plaque marking this milestone, further signifying the government’s commitment to bolstering education for girls in the region.

Historical Context of Education Initiatives

Chief Minister Patel noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid a strong foundation for girls’ education in Gujarat during his tenure as Chief Minister. He highlighted the development of an education system designed to help children from economically disadvantaged backgrounds access opportunities for academic and personal growth, according to an official release.

Success of Educational Programs

During his address, Patel emphasized the success of initiatives like Shala Praveshotsav and Kanya Kelavani Mahotsav, which were launched by Prime Minister Modi. He acknowledged that these programs have successfully lowered the dropout rate to approximately 2 percent. In an effort to prevent girls from dropping out due to financial difficulties, the State Government introduced the Namo Lakshmi and Namo Saraswati Vigyan Sadhana Yojana.

Financial Assistance for Education

So far, the Namo Lakshmi scheme has provided financial support amounting to Rs 1,438 crore to around 21.34 lakh girls. Additionally, the Namo Saraswati scheme has directly credited Rs 220 crore into the accounts of nearly 2.96 lakh students, demonstrating the government’s commitment to facilitating educational access for girls across the state.

Welfare Schemes as Catalysts for Change

Patel described the various educational welfare schemes implemented by the State Government as transformative for the lives of girls in Gujarat. He remarked on the significant advancements made by girls in fields such as education, sports, startups, research, and administration, reflecting the positive impact of these initiatives on society.
