Neelam Shinde a 35-year-old Indian student in the US remains in a coma since February 14 following severe injuries sustained during a deadly car accident in California. Multiple severe injuries from a four-wheeler car accident caused Neelam Shinde to have limb fractures and serious brain injury. The family of Neelam Shinde remains unable to visit her while she remains in critical condition because they have not obtained US visas.

Family Faces Visa Delay Amid Medical Emergency

Neelam’s roommates revealed this unfortunate incident that took place on February 16 to her family living in Maharashtra’s Satara district. Neelam’s uncle Sanjay Kadam reported that the hospital acted swiftly by admitting Neelam before seeking permission from her relatives to conduct urgent brain surgery. The hospital provides the family with daily health reports about Neelam’s critical medical state. Getting a visa has become challenging because the earliest available appointment for a visa is not available until 2026.
Neelam has spent four years in the United States and is in her final year of education. Tanaji Shinde the father of the victim has persistently attempted to acquire a visa since the accident but has not received any help from official authorities. NCP (SP) MP Supriya Sule has provided assistance to the family by making an official request to External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar.

Through social media, Sule appealed to the Ministry of External Affairs and the Indian Embassy in the US for emergency visa support for Neelam’s family. According to Sule, the matter demands urgent attention at this moment. Sule acknowledged the positive role Jaishankar played in supporting Indian students during emergencies despite their contrasting political views. She made contact with the American embassy in Mumbai to push forward the visa processing.
The Shinde family is still awaiting a resolution, desperately hoping for a chance to be by Neelam’s side as she battles for her life. With the support of political figures and diplomatic efforts, they remain hopeful that the visa issue will be resolved soon.
